“Typical Tex-Mex”

Los Tios Mexican Restaurant
Ranked #3,696 of 8,399 Restaurants in Houston
Cuisines: Mexican
Description: Los Tios Mexican Restaurant has been serving Houston authentic Tex-Mex for over four decades. Through those years, devoted diners have made Los Tios a family tradition handed down over generations. Favorite tables, favorite waiters and, most importantly, favorite dishes have become rituals with Houstonians who have named Los Tios "Houston’s Best Tex-Mex" time and time again. And why not? Los Tios introduced Houston's first frozen margaritas back in 1975. Made with top-shelf tequilas and fresh squeezed limes, our margarita is widely known to be Houston's finest.

This restaurant has been around for 30+ years and serves typical tex-mex dishes. While I enjoy tex-mex food, for me it only comes in two categories; unacceptable and acceptable. Los Tios is acceptable. The differences in the many choices we have for tex-mex restaurants is in the service and atmosphere. The service on this particular visit was outstanding, prompting us in this Christmas season to leave a tip essentially equal to our luncheon bill. Unfortunately, this location is in a strip-center with limited parking, and the ambiance could be described as a 70s attempt to recreate a feeling of Mexico with dark wood furniture and dim lighting; a little depressing. This particular location is in an area where the demographics lean towards seniors.

Sure there are a lot of Mexican food restaurants in Houston, but this one has margaritas that can actually give a you a buzz. I could name several chains that are serving frozen lemonade and they forgot the booze. Love the green salsa. The food is always fresh and tasty. If I find a better place for a weekly Mexican food fix, I will let you know.

Horrible physical setting. Bad smell in the air. Bad lighting. Shoddy furniture. Very old waiter staff are at least polite and attentive. Margarita drinks both frozen and on the rocks mediocre at best. Queso with taco meat lacks substance and spices. Chips were thin and crisp. Even visiting for a drink and appetizers was a real horrible adventure.

Very Good lunch menu. Had the taco, enchilada & bean plate. I believe it was the second one down on the lunch menu.

I have been coming here for a long time. It was never one of my favorites, but over the last decade this has been one of my family's staples. The chips and green salsa is very good. I usually get a combo plate with enchilada, guacamole, tamale, etc or chalupas. There are better places for grilled stuff, but I have not had fajitas there in 6 or 7 years. The staff is nice enough, it is sometimes very busy.
