I've been to them all, this one wins in both categories. It will be a little pricier than some of the others, and if you are on a budget, there are alternatives in town that are more than acceptable. But El Tiempo has great filet mignon fajitas. The chicken and regular beef skirt steak versions are also top notch. Add to that the best margaritas in town. I don't like the sweet syrupy green margaritas served in most places. The El Tiempo margaritas are refreshing and clean; better get a pitcher, you'll want more than one. Finally, the atmosphere at the Washinton Ave. location is festive and fun. The patio is always a good choice for seating. You won't go wrong here.

We are from Houston and we eat a lot of Mexican food the food was great from the salsa/queso to the fajitas. They make pork fajitas that were fantastic good flavor and very tender. If you are coming from out of town and looking for good Texmex you have to go there.

This restaurant is in the Vintage, a popular upscale shopping center. Service and atmosphere were good. The food was hot, plentiful and quickly served. Two salsa were presented and both the red and green salsas were good. Wait staff were pleasant and plentiful. The only problem was that we were seated across from a door to the patio on a cold day. It would have been Ok except people were sitting outside and the door was opened many times.

living in houston we eat a lot of tex-mex, El Tiempo is one of the best in town for food quality and flavor. Service is usually great, sometimes they are very busy and then it is still good.

The only reason not to give this place 5 stars is that the food is very common for Houston, if you are from Toronto you might give it all 5 stars.

It's no secret that New York is not known for authentic Tex-Mex.

So when travelling to Texas, us "Yankees" that need a good Tex-Mex fix have to do our homework in order to satisfy the craving. After asking around, we decided to try El Tiempo Cantina, and were simply blown away!

First off, we lucked out be getting just about the best server we have ever had. Tito came to our table, and with a 100-watt smile, proceeded to proudly explain the menu. And what a wonderful menu it is! At Tito's recommendation, we ordered Appetizers: Guacamole', Chili con queso with ground beef, Main course(s): the "Canonball" (deep-fried, shrimp-stuffed, cheesy whole avocado), chicken flauta, pork tamales, and spinach rice.

Everything was extremely well prepared, fresh, and authentic, but of special note: the tamales - I haven't had better! Also, the "canonball" was an amazing entree, and a very surprisingly creative dish that I would love to try again. Tito was also kind enough to bring me a small dish of freshly-made "habanero sauce" - not for the faint-of-heart, but it certainly cleaned my palate and sinuses.

Of course, Tito also suggested a wonderful beer to go with the main course - a Victoria brew. Fantastic addition to an already wonderful meal. We also tried a Sangria, which was out of this world!

And to top off the evening, we ordered the "Chocobanana" for dessert. Now, for the record, I am NOT a dessert guy, but this thing was amazing. A whole banana and rich chocolate wrapped in a flour tortilla shell, deep-fried, and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon - wow! The dish comes with two of these beauties, plus some creamy vanilla ice cream and a customized bit of chocolate on the top...

Tito - if you are reading this: SAVE US A BOOTH - we are coming back!
