Description: On December 26, 1986, The Original Carrabba's opened its doors. Today, Johnny Carrabba and his family are proud that the two original locations on Kirby Drive and Voss Road remain family owned and operated neighborhood restaurants. What makes us unique are the quality ingredients that go into each dish along with our lively and warm dining experiences. At The Original Carrabba's, we have an open kitchen and we take enormous pride in our food. Our pizza dough is made fresh every day and our pizzas are cooked in a wood-burning oven. We fillet our own fish daily, make fresh homemade pasta, and we even hand stuff our own signature Cappelletti. Even our fresh milk mozzarella is hand made. Our steaks, chops and seafood are all cooked over a wood-burning grill. Johnny's father, Mr. C. still mixes his own secret spices and makes his own Italian sausage for our restaurants. The Original Carrabba's on Kirby Drive and Voss Road is where people come together to eat, celebrate, share stories, share meals and share many laughs and memories. We look forward to you and your family joining us at our table.

“Good Italian Food, even better Espresso”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

The first time I visited this place I was a college intern at a radio show in the Montrose district. I had a taste for Italian so I drove until I found the Kirby location. It was empty, lunch crowed was gone. So I placed a to go order and took an expresso while I waited. That was over 15 years ago...I still love this place. I've been to Italy a couple of times, this food taste Italian. And on the weekends the atmosphere is Italian. Great pasta, salads, and expresso. The pizzas aren't that bad either, but not as good as I've had in Italy.

“Mid Range Italian”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

A bit of a nice step up from Olive Garden in both food quality and atmosphere. The Pizza was very nice and the Lasagna decent. Not open week days for lunch which is too bad.

“Great food & service”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

Really like their veal chop and the chicken Bryan. The only annoying thing is that when you order something to go they are cheap with the bread and charge extra for stuff that is not extra in the restaurant. They also charge extra for the packaging to go if you pick up but not if you take leftovers in the restaurant.

“One of two family-owned Carrabba's”
Reviewed July 25, 2012

This location and the one on Kirby are still owned by the family, while the others have been sold to a chain, and are not as good. The only negative I've got to say about this location is that they do not take reservations, and the wait, especially on weekends, can be well over one hour. The food is consistently well-prepared, tasty, and the portions are more than ample. The style is basic southern Italian--lots of tomato sauce and paste in their dishes, lots of cheese. They do an excellent job on fish dishes as well, especially the Snapper Wolfe, if it happens to be on the menu (it's an occasional special).

This is a bustling restaurant, suitable for families. It can range from moderate to moderately expensive, depending on your choice of appetizers and/or dinner, but it is dependably very good.
