After a lousy dinner at our hotel our group of business travelers made a run at 11 o'clock at night to get some ice cream from a place we heard had high raves. It was worth the adventure!
Coldstone concept but with flavors you may not find anywhere else like Mexican Vanilla. The place was packed at 11 & people kept coming. We winded up going back 3 nights in a row after, one night we had to wait for seats.

Cons: they don't let you contribute to the graffiti on the wall! more seating needed at times!
Pros: being able to pre-taste something because you need to since they have such unusual flavors.

We love going here whenever we are close to downtown houston. They always have some crazy ice cream flavor to try. The salted caramel flavor was really good last time we were there. A nice change from the typical chain restaurants.

Great, unusual flavors with lots of mix-ins available. I had Mexican Vanilla with Reese's cup. My companion had a wonderful fresh lime ice. They throw the ice cream up in the air and catch it in your cup, which is pretty entertaining for the kids. But adults will like it for the flavors, including a few that are alcoholic like Brandy Alexander.

Hard to beat Austin-based ice cream joint on S. Shepherd that offers high butter fat ice cream options from cups and cones to malts, shakes, and sundaes. There's coffee, smoothies, ices, and frozen yogurt, but alas we've never had the willpower to forgo the ice cream treats. More or less straightforward flavors (no herb infused this or that) of both standards (e.g. Mexican Vanilla, Sweet Cream, and Dark Chocolate), rotations (e.g. Dreamsicle, White Lightening, and Shiner), and a few random specials. Some flavors are as alcohol infused, but there are plenty of options for the kiddies. Slightly grungy vibe with interesting characters scooping behind the counter. The line of families to bikers can be out the door on Friday and Saturday nights, but it moves relatively quickly. Life is short, eat dessert first!

My girlfriend and I stopped by Amy's on our weekend trip in Houston, and we loved it! I consider myself a beer connoisseur, so I tried the Guinness and Shiner Bock flavored ice creams. Both were excellent! My girlfriend can't stand beer, but she enjoyed the Guinness ice cream. The hand made waffle cones were delicious. Some consider Amy's expensive, but it's comparable to Marble Slab. Like a luxury automobile, you get what you pay for. It's worth every penny. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and the line of people out the door never seems to end! The employees provided prompt and courteous service, the long line is due to how wonderful this place is. If you want a unique and eclectic ice cream experience, go to Amy's
