It was a Thursday night and we were surrounded by couples who were meeting for the first time and getting to know each other. So our meal was accompanied by unexpected entertainment which was facilitated by the bench seating along the wall and the intimate environment of the dining room. My husband and I found our meals to be a mix of fabulous and so-so. The house salads were very fresh and lightly dressed. My trout stuffed with crabmeat was the fabulous part that was accompanied by sautéed baby spring vegetables. Part of what made it fabulous was the bierre blanc sauce that the vegetables were sautéed in--very delicious! My husband had the shrimp grits with bacon and jalapenos and topped with a poached egg. While this dish sounded very interesting, the grits tasted like they had been pureed, resulting in a very disappointing texture, or more accurately, lack of texture, and the bacon was almost nonexistent. The shrimp, egg and jalapeno were quite tasty, but left us both longing for the texture and flavor of regular grits. When you want grits, you want grits, not cream.
