“Large party”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

The food was fairly tasty. As a native to south Texas, I'm fairly particular. I had the tortilla soup and a paposa. The soup was delicious and the paposa was tasty but heavy, one was a meal. Our large group received fair to poor service and had to call the wait staff over to us several times. We weren't particularly demanding, just needed refills on beverages. That's always disappointing.

“Disappointed in the Land of Tex-Mex”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

I had looked at some good reviews of this restaurant and wanted to give it a try and to not ostracize it before I tried it. Living in Houston, I have come to expect a certain taste and flair to the Tex-Mex cuisine. La Mexicana, however disappointed with the food. The service and the atmosphere were okay but the food really got me in the end. I ordered the sopes which consisted of a fresh made corn tortilla with lettuce, tomatoes and choice of beef, shredded chicken or fajita meat. I opted for chicken fajita with the sopes. The plate came with two tortillas with the lettuce heaped over, the chicken interspersed with the lettuce and everything topped with the tomato and queso fresco. I will admit that the actual tortilla was good; warm, a little crumbly, and freshly made. The chicken was completely bland, tomato (since there was only one slice each on top of each tortilla) was not fresh, and the lettuce could have been better. I would not revisit the place. On the positive side, the service was good the decor was okay.

“Surrounded by better options”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

Mediocre, overpriced TexMex with below average service. Beef fajitas tasted like roast beef. Guacamole tasted like it came out of a can and you had to ask for pico to add to it. Waiter spoke maybe 5 words, and clearly struggled with English. Entrees seemed to take about 20 minutes to arrive. There are a dozen better options for TexMex within 2-3 miles.

“Brunch Blah Pooey!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

Took my mother and son to Brunch here---not too crowded and was instructed to seat ourselves so upstairs to the older part of the restaurant we go. Hard to get waiters attention, hard to get refills--The hot sauce is spicy to the point ist is rather "one" note. the chicken was way to greasy and the guacamole portions way too small. We had to keep reminding our waiter please bring CORN not flour tortillas. The waiters mind seemed elsewhere. . . . . . . which is where we will be.

“Good mexican breakfast”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

Had breakfast at 10:00 am on New Years Day and it was already busy. Food is very good (especially the homemade tortillas) while the service is average. For the price, I would expect better service, but the overall experience was good. Been here for breakfast before and never had a bad meal.
