“Expensive”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Great food and great service. The place we go to for special occasions. However, it is expensive (we spent $600 for the four of us). Tends to be crowded and tables are very close to each other, even when we went on a Wednesday night. Surprisingly, it was not that noisy considering how close we were to the next table

“Wonderful dining experience.”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

My husband and I had a lovely Sunday evening here. The service was excellent, the room was cozy, the menu full of interesting choices, and the other patrons were beautiful to behold. I mentioned to the waiter straightaway that I was upset with myself for forgetting my glasses and without missing a beat he removed his and offered them to me. He was very professional and wowed us by telling us about the 10 or so off the menu specials, which were so interesting we closed the menu and debated which new delicacy to try. For a starter, we shared a wonderful oyster dish, with 4 small perfectly fried oysters and 4 oysters baked in the shell with a light cream sauce and vegetables. My husband had a sublime soft shelled crab, and I had a tender, lovely plate of lamb chops cooked tandoori style with Indian-inspired sides. For dessert we shared a coconut banana cream pie. The meal was expensive, and we are not rich, but it was money well spent for a lovely evening.

My benchmark for fine dining in Houston is Brennan's, and Mark's is every bit as fantastic, in every way. Well, except for the huge bowl of pralines as you leave Brennan's.

“almost perfect”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

Food was quite excellent, from the special appetizers - the poki was great and the duck ravioli with quail was special. The seafood appetizer sampler was good but neither my wife nor i loved the seared scallop. For our main courses, the Bison was excellent; the veal chop about which the waiter raved was fine, but not as tasty as the bison - it definitely needed the accompanying sauces. As for dessert, the recommended pastry with cherries was good, but the pastry could have been flakier and the cherries plumper. One disappointment - we asked about a particular wine and the waiter pretended to be knowledgeable - fortunately we didn't listen to him, went with our instincts and were happy with the cab franc we selected - but he should know, he was wrong, it was not "fruity."

“Class & Taste”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

Amazing service & food. The bread is to die for and even if you're on a carb free diet, please don't miss out on it. Got the seafood salad & although it was pricey, it was delicious & oh most importantly, they have French press coffee. Love the place....

“For a 5 Star Night Out...”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Mark's is really amazing... one of the only 5 star restaurants in Houston. The building is an old church, which makes for a really beautiful dining area.

If you have 5-8 guests and want to let the chef wow your tastebuds, try to reserve The Alcove. It's $55pp for lunch or $95pp for dinner (additional $55pp for wine pairings) and you'll get several courses of delicious food.
