“New Owners/Better All Around”
Reviewed November 18, 2011

New owners have greatly expanded the menu, improved service, and lowered the prices or kept them level. My wife and I eat at Kaneyama at least weekly. We tried every other sushi place in town, but we keep coming back here. Plenty of free parking, sushi bar, and tatami rooms give diners lots of options. Their 4:00 to 7:00 daily happy hour makes this the best deal in town, especially if you want to check out this place. Although they have free Wi-Fi, Kaneyama has an extensive menu of specialties only found in Japan---great if you have visitors from Japan to entertain.

Their sushi is always fresh and served at the right temperature. Sometimes the sushi presentation is inconsistent. Some regulars like us ask for their fave sushi chef. They have over 50 different rolls, and the list grows and changes monthly. Don't expect lots of loud music, swinging singles scene, or flaming knife throwers. Kaneyama is more of a neighborhood hangout. Lots of regulars. Kid friendly.

“Poor service, smells like diapers”
Reviewed March 8, 2011

Ammonia smell is the clue that the fish is not fresh. So, I should have left. I did have the cooked saba shio and the salmon teriyaki. The saba was good. Tempura was a little oily. Service was quite slow.

“Positive experience and nice atmosphere.”
Reviewed July 26, 2009

We went on a Saturday (late Lunch) to entertain a family member who had a flight stopover before heading to Central America. We wanted to have a traditional private Japanese Room. We went through the internet, found their site and called for reservation. The outside facade of the restaurant is not extra ordinary but the inside is clean and spacious. There are three imitation Japanese rooms which can be use for private occassions and for a romantic private dinner. The prices is a bit on the high side but it's all worth it when you see the food portion. They do charge an automatic 18% gratuity for the room but at least you do not have to sit on the floor since they have a hole underneath the table for your feet. The food taste good and fresh. The shrimp tempura is not heavily battered and the rolls are well prepared. They have a special on the Bento Boxes on weekends and they do fill you up.
I like the waiting staff with their friendly smile and you do not have to wait long for your food. I definitely recommend this place.
