“Mediocre Food plus Bad Service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2013

I had eaten here years ago and thought that it was just average. After three trips to Italy in the last three years, my tastes in Italian food have changed and I wanted to try it again. The special crab appetizer was mediocre and the pasta in my wife's pasta with clams was not al dente, it was raw. Only my pasta and squid special was any good at all. Houston is littered with good to great Italian restaurants, this is not one of them.

“Excellent Continental Italian”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

The ambience, food, and service make this one of Houston's best restaurants. The chef's daily special, one of which is always fish, is always worth trying. I have dined at Arco Doro on numerous occasions--both lunch and dinner--and have never been disappointed. And you might just have the chance to see president George H. W. Bush.

“"Nice italian al fresco dining, food and service not up to par..."”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

The place is in the heart of The Galleria area, very convenient for business lunches. During nice weather, ask for a table in the patio like we did and change the setting to al fresco dinning. Service is friendly and you can't beat the location. However, the service was slow on a monday night and the food was only ok. Pizza Margherita was good but the "insalata de mare" was not very tasty. The "carpaccio" lacked dressing and had to copensate with olive oil and lime the waiter brought to the table. Ravioli was so so...

“Poor service in an old time favorite”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

I have been eating at ArcoDoro since it opened in 1996 I believe.I always liked the restaurant.
Tonight we had a visiting party from out of town coming for diner.Me and a friend Arrived early.Waiting for the rest I ordered a double espresso.I was served the coffee without any Sugar or any water? 10 min later the waiter still was oblivious until I finally asked for the Sugar. No water.Second request was made to get a glass.Later During dinner I had the Bronzino I always order. Not so good. And the prices..well Pricey as always.

“Very Enjoyable first time visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

wonderful atmosphere in the back room away from the kids and family. Our waiter Michael was wonderful and let us while away the night to a 3.5 hour dinner. Everything from the OsoBuco to the Lamb was delicious, fresh and tasty. The selection of bread for olive oil was nice and tira misu and cappaccino to end it was wonderful.

The only shortcoming is the relatively thin wine list and the prices. We had a nice wine from Umbria that was $45. We stopped at Specs the next day and picked it up for $15. A mark up I think is way to high!

We are wine drinkers and appreciate not getting gouged.

They did make a great Martini for me as well.
