America is renowned for it's cheap food (not too much of that in Houston though) but my goodness, I was blown away with this place.
We stumbled upon it at 3pm on a weekday and it was absolutely packed!!! And I can see why. We were having dinner that night, so opted for coffee and a slice of carrot cake to share. I am so glad we didn't ask for one each. It was 12 x 12 x 12 inches, with about 12 layers of cream. I honestly couldn't believe it. I was enough for 8 people, and only $6.95!!! That is value and a half, and then some.
Looking around at the other diners' meals made my eyes water. The lasagne (which looked like meatloaf) was gigantic. So much, that I can't believe the woman eating it managed half. It was 8 times bigger than a portion in the UK. The burgers looked really juicy and the colossal salads were enough for a football team to share. All the mains are about $9, but this place doesn't feel cheap, it has a lovely feel and the diners were all very well-to-do.
If I lived next door I wouldn't bother cooking at home, it's just too cheap and too good. Add in the great, friendly service and the dog-friendly nature, I actually can't believe there wasn't a queue around the block.
