I made Chef's Table reservations for my girlfriend's birthday - it was a wonderful experience. We had a very private table in an alcove off of the kitchen. The head chef was in the center of our view, directing the extremely busy kitchen throughout the night. The many course dinner was served at whatever pace we desired and our personal waiter was ideally attentive. I consider the cost worthy of the special occasion and the unique experience.

We were in Houston for a convention, called for reservations for 7:30 on a Saturday night ,and arranged for the shuttle from the Hilton. The 7 of us arrived on time, but one had on shorts (a very nice pair) and was turned away. After much discussion, he decided to go back to hotel and change while we were seated at our round table off-center in the small dining room. (we were surprised that there was no waiting) . We were glad that we stayed, for the meal was very nice. The Antipasto Misto was delicious, the Gamberoni Vincenzo (shrimp with crabmeat and marinara) was okay, but the Veal Marsala and Piccata were excellent. Great wine! Great bread!
The dining room was very noisy, but our service was impeccable (probably because they knew we were a bit upset about the shorts thing). A bit on the pricey side, but we didn't leave hungry.
The only complaint was we weren't told about the dress code when we called for reservations as was the case with Vic and Anthony's. Oh yea, the manager was very pretentious.

We are suburban residents of this fantastic Downtown Houston restaurant and drive the 30 miles needed to frequent it as much as possible for special occasions, theater nights and because we enjoy great food and service. The atmosphere is old world Tuscan Italian... ambiance and service is first rate (ask for Rueben's table) as he is a professional Class Act server that will make your Dining experience more memorable. The fried Calamari appetizer is one of the best in town as is the table-side prepared Cesar salad. The Filet is cooked to perfection and the fresh Fish dishes (Almond crusted Halibut with a white wine, butter and caper sauce) off menu request is not to be missed as is the Pollo Mendocino. Shrimp Damien is very good served with their excellent marinara sauce over Angel Hair Pasta instead of the Fettucine Alfredo. Save room for their homemade Italian Cream Cake and Chocolate Brownie Dessert (it has a fancy Italian name on the menu and is my husband's favorite).
All Italian wine list with some good selections. You will not be disappointed. Make reservations or you might not get a table, esp. during a busy Theater season. They offer shuttle service to the Houston Downtown Theater District, another plus!!
