“Unique BBQ Experience”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

We decided to stop and see what the rave reviews were about, and weren't disappointed. The experience of ordering your meat choice and then ordering your vegetable and drink choice was quite unique. The ribs we ordered were delicious, but we've had better. It might have been due to variables such as the meat, the cook, our hunger factor, etc. All it all it was a good experience and we would return whenever we're in the area.

“Grest Texas BBQ”
Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

Having both eaten here and had them cater an event I can say without a doubt that these guys are the most reliable and quality BBQ joint in Houston. The food is great. Every element of their resturaunr has been fine tuned over the years. Staff are friendly and good at their jobs, especially those who cater. Meat there is probably the best I've ever had, and in contrast with some of the other reviews, paying by the pound does make sense (welcome to Texas you Yankees). Also, do not over look the sides and condiments, as they are world class (especially the pickles). Every time we have eaten there the line has run out the door, but it moves very quickly. If your looking for excelent BBQ, head on down to Luling City Market.

“This place has some great Q”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

As a BBQ judge I have some experience- this place is fun , cheap and great food I drove 50 miles to bring back 10 pounds of brisket( by plane ). In talking with customers this is half way point from Houston to San Antonio and they always stop as I would if in Area .

“Go West(!) young man/woman (138 miles on I-10) for REAL deal...”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

After seeing reviews I decided to take a chance. Though it may have been "close" to the original during initial start-up (when former City Market - from Luling) started tis place, this is NOT Luling sausage.

I tried both sausage and brisket.

The sausage ($4.65/link, really?). The sausage literally left a paste-like coating in mouth after each bite (like a damp saw dust, perhaps a filler?). Score: "0" (out of 5)

The brisket was OK (read this to mean moist) but had no flavor. Not even a hint of pepper/salt/rub... Score: "2" (out of 5).

Over the next few days I had the pleasure of tasting 1) REAL Luling City Market (Luling) sausage, and 2) the sausage at both Black's and Smitty's in Lockhart.

Go to these places:

City Market (Luling)
Black's/Smitty's/Kreutz (all three are in Lockhart!)

Have your own taste test and decide... but forget Houston's "Luling City Market" on Richmond...

“Great BBQ”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

I really like this place. It is different and a little off the beaten path but well worth taking the detour. If you normally stop at Buc-cee's on I-10 between Houston and San Antonio try changing it up and stop at City Market in downtown Lulling. It is only about 6 or 7 miles north of Buc-cees. The BBQ is great, I really like the sausage and the ribs which is really funny because I don't eat sausage or ribs any place else.
