We moved to the Heights a few months ago and have eaten at D'Amico's at least twice a month. The food has always been consistent and good. The service has been good as well. The tomato basil soup is great, as is the mushroom risotto.

Reading the other reviews perplexes us. We just had dinner there and at first loved the "look" and feel of the place. The appetizer of sautéed calamari was quite good but from then on everything went mediocre in a hurry. My husband had pasta with shrimp - tasteless marinara pretty much destroyed his dish. Shockingly my pizza was worse. For a place that touts its wood fired pizza oven it was actually worse than any frozen pizza I have ever had. Again no taste and almost raw mushrooms impaired an otherwise decent crust.
Additionally the service was poor- though friendly our waitress seemed to have too many tables to remember our requests. Asked for balsamic vinegar and 20 minutes later finally flagged down a busboy to get it.

We will not be back.

Returned here after a positive experience, and found the food, at best, boring, at worst, tasteless. Pasta was overcooked, watery, bland sauces. Not good, will not return.

Tonight we visited D’Amigos at the Houston Rice Village. One of our family favorites for 16 years. Always nice to see some of the same staff still there all these years. The restaurant has changed very little since it opened as a small market/restaurant. Has become very popular over the years. The value of this restaurant is the ambiance and the reasonable prices. Serves by far one of the best Lunch specials in town (different every day). Large lunch portions/very reasonable price.
The dinner is a different deal all together. Although “Italian” in name it cannot get away from all the spice and Salsa that the Non-Italian staff uses for the cooking. Lots of Latino touches with tons of Tomato, garlic oil and “heavy” tastes. In any case after all this years we have figure it out and can make some pretty safe suggestions: Marylin Salad, Honey Mustard chicken salad, Caesar, Calamari, and Pizza margarita, and Spaghetti/meatballs (difficult to mesh it up and our youngest loves it).Example of pricing: 3 spaghetti plates,2 salads,1 pizza, one soft drink 64 $$.
Service : Some of the staff look that they could not care less. Some we know for years so we don’t care at this point. The mini market is pretty cool and you can get a pretty decent cup of espresso with some gelato. They will validate your parking ticket as well!

D'Amico's in the Heights has excellent food and a very attentive waitstaff. Lunch is relaxed and the specials are a good buy. The dinner menu is fairly pricey but my entree (Wild Mushroom and Walnut Tortellini) was delicious. On a previous visit, I had the Rolled Stuffed Eggplant and it was also wonderful. Portions are ample but not overwhelming. Weekend parking can be difficult as this near Heights area is becoming very popular with the Yups. We arrived before 6 on a Friday night and were able to park in the dedicated lot across the street. Valet parking is available.
