“Pasta Perfect - Another solid dinner at Prego”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

Prego is one of those restaurants that is consistently very, very good. It has a neighborhood feel, but a sophisticated menu and solid wine list. My husband and I popped in last night for a late dinner. Although we don't dine here often enough, when we do, we like to sit at the bar where the Bartender, Kathy, is absolutely terrific! My husband ordered the special which was a pan seared soft shell crab with a side of ravioli and asparagus. He loves soft shell crab and orders it frequently at restaurants....he declared last night that his meal may have been the best soft shell crab he has ever had...and, i have to agree based on the one bite i was able to snare from his plate. I had the old standard, Prego Ravioli....it is always terrific....house made ravioli in a tomato vodka sauce with fresh mushrooms. The freshness of the tomato sauce really stand out with this dish. Just a good, solid restaurant and always a great experience.

“Great Italian in Rice Village”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

This restaurant is conveniently located in Rice Village on a corner. It's always crowded, so it's best to call ahead. It has a small bar to the left. The wine list is pricey, but the wines are good, and there are some available by the glass. The atmosphere is low key. It's a small dining venue with a great Italian menu. The portions are huge, so if you can't eat so much and don't have a refrigerator to bring a go box home to, try to share with a dining partner. The veal is excellent, very tender. I've had fish a couple of times, and it is always fresh and well prepared. There are vegetarian selections as well. The deserts are wonderful as well. The service is excellent. The entrees are in the $22-29 range, not so unusual for a large city. The reason for the four and not five stars is the price, but as I said, that's to be expected in Houston.

“Good first visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

First time in, Saturday night. No valet and parking nearby required you to park in a "you will be towed if you don't shop here" zone. We had reservations and were sat promptly. The restaurant is noisy and was a bit smoky when we arrived, maybe something had just come off the grill. Our drinks came quickly. Wine Spectator acknowledged Prego for an outstanding wine list a few years ago. We ordered cornmeal crusted oysters that were very good. My wife ordered grilled seabass that i thought was just ok. I ordered the lasagna which was unique, lots of cheese and made with meat balls. I thought it was good but would probably try something else next time. We ordered the strawberry shortcake for dessert. 20 mins to get this so order during your entreee consumption. The shortcake was good, maybe a little burnt on the bottom but overall taste was good. Check came and was correct. When leaving the restaurant, literally 1 step out the door we were blocked by a guy asking everyone exiting to help him with a train ticket. The manager should be asking him to move on.

“Great food in a fun atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

In Houston for a quick trip and the hotel manager recommended Prego's. The place was packed out. The service was prompt and efficient. The bread was delicious as were the cocktails. The pasta dish I had was great. The Ravioli was fantastic with the basil sauce. The prices were good. Highly recommend this restaurant which is in a neat area of shops and restaurants/bars called Rice Village.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

Went with a group of 8 on the spur of the moment. Lucky for us they had a cancellation in their private dinning room. Beautiful room lined with wine bottles. Service was great and all the dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. A variety of entrees were ordered and enjoyed. Extensive wine list as well
