Six weeks ago the "bean counting" corporation changed the once excellent store-ground French Roast coffee to a prepackaged coffee. The consumer relations representative called it "the modern way". They seem to have forgotten what made them good.

I really love this quaint and beautiful restaurant. Though I consider the prices high, the ambiance, the flavors and the food is excellent!

Had lunch here two days in a row. Had different salads each day. The salads were good, not great. The staff behind the counter is pretty indifferent. Two people ordered the same salad, one regular size, the other large. We could not tell the difference between a regular size salad and a large one. We watched it being prepared and did not see any difference during the preparation- same amount of chicken from a sleeve of aluminum foil, same amount of mandarin slices, nuts, etc. Coffee was good the first day, old and cold the second. We have been coming here for years when in the area and it seems that the quality and service has slipped. It is still an acceptable choice for lunch, but is no longer great.

I want to love this place. The location is perfect for me and I have been a LaMad fan for years since they serve decent food at reasonable prices. I love all things French, so I go here for my croissant breakfasts since there isn't a decent french bakery in Houston....well at least not in the Northwest suburbs.

My biggest complaint is that they don't serve the hot items hot. Their pastries are great, their madeleines are the best and sacher tortes are delicious. I have been going for years and find it reliable both in the good ways and the bad - meaning they consistently serve good quality food but they also consistently serve my breakfast cold. Who wants to eat cold croissants and cold bacon? It is one of the saddest things to me that they are so close to being really special, but instead they just come off as average.

Try the Euro Bakery on Louetta where you get great croissants and they always serve them hot.
