Saint Arnold Brewery
Ranked #305 of 8,353 Restaurants in Houston
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: $12 - $25
Cuisines: International
Description: Saint Arnold Brewing Company, located in Houston, is Texas' Oldest Craft Brewery. Our goal is to brew world class beers and deliver them to our customers as fresh as possible making them the best beers in Texas and Louisiana. Our customers are beer lovers - people that appreciate great, full-flavored beers. Our small crew does everything at the brewery: brew the beer, filter the beer, keg the beer, bottle the beer, sell the beer and drink the beer. For us, this is a passion, not a job. We believe that this comes through in the beers we make. Our beers have soul. Our Brewery & Beer Hall is located just north of Downtown Houston at 2000 Lyons Ave. We are open to the public Monday through Saturday. Join us for an afternoon of delicious food, brews, and a tour!

The Investors Bar is a great place to have a private party. The room is very large but also has seating areas that provide a more intimate setting if desired.

The bar area of the brewery was packed the Saturday we were there. Groups of people brought their own food, chairs and games and had picnics while enjoying the St. Arnold brew of their choice. It was a great atmosphere and it made we wish we had a place like that in Baton Rouge.

I'm not a beer drinker, but felt it important to visit this icon in houston. We went on a Saturday and the experience is like a local community picnic (complete with a/c). Locals bring snacks, lunch, etc and plant themselves there for hours as they enjoy the beer samplings during the day. For just a few bucks, you'll walk away with 4 glasses of your favorite brew (or all you care to drink of the root beer) and a keepsake glass. The owner led the tour we took. His energy and passion was one of the highlights. Definitely recommended. Go early, or bring a folding chair as it fills up!!

We arrived at the brewery to do a little drinking, mainly in hopes to try some beers that were not distributed. We got to the desk, and the lady said, "Are you here for the tour?" I said "Can I look around real quick" as I saw a people drinking. This is where the attitude began. To make a long story short, I was lectured about how we were at a brewery, not a bar.

The fact is, I've been to dozens of breweries, all through Colorado, the Carolina's and elsewhere, and I've never, not been able to go straight to the tasting room. Look we walked all day and I had no interest in seeing beer go in to a bottle, then watch a machine put a label on it.

Had the lady said, "You take the tour, and you get samples at the end." We would have obliged, and happily done the tour. Instead, we were greeted with an attitude, and "this is a brewery, sir".

My advice, skip Arnold's if you're in a good mood.

So St Arnold's is a local craft brewery, but many don't they serve lunch Monday through Friday. The chef creates a gourmet lunch everyday that is wonderful. Two courses each day that will tantalize your taste buds. Desserts are separate, but oh so yummy! The best part is you can sample beer with your meal and keep the glass. The afternoon I visited we had marinated cucumbers and tomatoes with grilled skirt steak, chipotle roasted potatoes, and glazed carrots. The dessert choices were strawberry shortcake or chocolate torte. Check the website for daily menu.
