The Peter principle, embodied in the saying "if something can go wrong, it will" adequately describes my first outing to the Uptown location of 1252. From spoiled condiments to bonehead service-2 of 4 items I ordered on the lunch menu were wrong- the hip ambiance could not offset the failure in execution. Unless management really gets its act together, 1252 will be deep six before 2 long.

Nice & bright & very roomy indoors, great for Happy Hour and space for a large group. Outdoor seating on patio in nice weather. Interesting selection of tasty tapas, tap beer, wine by the glass and both red & white sangria. Suburban shopping center location, worth visiting if in the area, right near HP campus in northwest Houston.

This place could be so much more. It is a chain - and I think the one in The Woodlands fares better. The idea is awesome - small plates and great wine/drinks. It is in a perfect location in the Vintage with outdoor seating amongst other good restaurants and occasional live music. Seating outside even in Jan/Feb with large stand up heaters. The food is creative with serious Spanish (not Mexican) flair. Very nice - until it takes 15min to get a menu and a glass of water. That clues you in to be ready with the entire order when the server comes around. Unfortunately, a tapas place is meant to be "eat as you go" - order a plate or two and a drink or two - settle the stomach - order some more if you are still hungry. There was only one server for the entire inside (and maybe outside) and one bartender. People sitting at the bar did receive better service as the ratio of servers to guests was much higher. Don't know if the kitchen was likewise understaffed - not visible. It took so long it was painful.
