We had a day to spend visiting Houston before leaving home, Europe. We decided to stay downtown to visit the city. After a few hours we left for NASA space centre which was very interesting. Hilton Americas is a good hotel, but overpriced.

The first and most important thing you need to know is that this Hilton is the only hotel in downtown H-town that's fully connected to the George R Brown Convention Center. This means that you don't have to go out into the 1,000 degree, super humid Houston weather to get to the convention center. Furthermore:

This is a huge property. Although it's been around for a while, it's incredibly well-kept and doesn't seem to be showing its age.

PROS:
- Excellent views from the higher rooms.
- Quality service from hotel staff (I'm not talking about the restaurant).
- The fitness center (next to top floor) is one of the nicest I've ever seen in any hotel anywhere in the world. Huge, impeccably clean, plenty of new machines and an amazing view (beware: if you have a fear of heights or a touch of vertigo, you should avoid working out here).
- Nice rooms with comfy beds and large desk space. Also a refrigerator to store things for your stay. Clean.
- The Executive Lounge is spacious; great views; pretty decent food spread
- Decent Peter Thomas Roth bathroom amenities.

CONS:
- Parking is quite a lot; much more than other properties in the area.
- We experienced pretty poor service at the restaurant in addition to super mediocre (and really pricy) food.
- Back to the Executive Lounge - booze are pretty pricey!
- Thermostat in my room had a mind of its own -- one minute it turned the heat on, next moment the AC.

I'd definitely stay here again assuming the company was paying and assuming I needed to have easy access to George R Brown Convention Center.

Room Tip: The higher room, the better!

Some background: I spend 2-3 months annually in hotels for business, and about 1 month annually in hotels for pleasure. I am not easy to please, and generally prefer small boutique hotels to large chains.

That said, this huge hotel is superb. Spacious rooms with comfortable beds and linens and good selection of pillows; bathrooms are ample-sized, well-designed, modern, well-equipped, and fully-functional; EVERYTHING - throughout the building - is SPOTLESSLY clean. Air conditioning works well with minimal noise. Excellent health club with a great view all-around from the 23rd floor! I have no idea how managers here keep this place running like clockwork … the logistics of a place this large boggle the imagination. And the efficiency is made to appear effortless. The entire staff - front desk, concierge, bell stand, restaurant, housekeeping, laundry service - is not only polite but friendly, professional, and very well-trained for the work they do. All are eager to help with a smile. Truly remarkable for a chain hotel and especially for a facility as large as this one. The restaurant was also quite good. Dishes vary in uniqueness and quality, but overall quite good; buffet breakfast is diverse and ample enough so that I was able to skip lunch on busy working days.

As a personal note, a series of errors on the part of the company I work with left me stranded in Houston with no reservations for the entire week following my originally-planned stay - at a time when every single hotel (including this one) in the city was sold out. (Literally. Some giant conference had the entire metroplex booked to the gills.) My only option appeared to be a 4th-rate hotel 25 miles out of town. The Hilton manager on duty when this situation arose for me, Evelyn Veitia, went far above and beyond the call of duty to enable me to extend my stay here. By doing so, she increased the efficiency of my subsequent work week by AT LEAST 50% - not to mention making that stay a great deal more pleasant. Her efforts, together with the charming and personal demeanor of the entire staff, have made me a Hilton devotee for life!

Room Tip: Higher floors have very nice views of the Toyota center or Minute Maid Stadium, and the metroplex.

Typical Hilton Hotel, a bit more hyped up because of the convention center. Parking is reasonable at $20 which I appreciate. On here for business and utilized their food services, which was on par. Nice stay as a HH member!

The Hilton Downtown Houston is a very pleasant, safe place to stay. Five of us were just there for a leisure event and had a great time. This was certainly the best place to stay for our event at the Convention Center. I will certainly be back for a restful, fun stay.
