“Feels Like Home! Only NOT!”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

My husband and I live 20 miles away and had concert ticket at the House of Blues and decided to make a day of it. We checked in around 3 and the front desk guy was very nice and helpful and moved us from the 4th floor to the 8th when we asked for a higher floor. The hotel has been totally redecorated with new carpet, fresh paint, etc... It was really nice and reminded me of the newer Marriott we stayed at in Trinidad last year. The bed was clean and SO SO comfy!! After walking around downtown and getting an appetizer, we went back to rest up before the concert and had we not had tickets, I would've just wanted to stay in the room!?! You are walking distance to some restaurants, shopping, and other things to do. They also have a free shuttle service to Minute Maid Park, The Toyota Center, and other venues. Living close by, we had forgotten how much the downtown area offers and had a great visit. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room. We were in 815 which overlooks the front of the hotel and the valet. We did...

Homer was extremely helpful and I cannot thank him enough. He works at the front desk and when there was a reservation that I made accidentally he canceled it without penalty even though it was past the cancelation policy date. That is what I call customer service. Thank you Homer

This is another Marriott property that has undergone an upgrade of late. I last stayed here on business about 9 years ago, so I'm not sure how recent it has been. Just the same, the renovation to the historic Humble Oil Company Building is impressive. The decor feels more akin to a full Marriott JW or Renaissance property. Note that half the building is an adjoining Residence Inn. Just across Main St. is a fairly new, three block long, upscale shopping center that rivals the Houston Center a few blocks away. Back when, it was a rather unsightly parking area and bus stop. The staff, without exception, was warm, friendly, inviting, and everything one would expect from the Marriott family. Included in the update, is their Bistro dining concept. It will work for breakfast, even if it is a bit overpriced. You might do just as well to walk next door to the Starbucks on Dallas St. The only disappointment is that which is shared with every other hotel across the Courtyard brand. They do not honor the guaranteed breakfast for their Platinum Elite guests. As a frequent business traveler, that can be a deciding factor when selecting a place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the southeast side of the hotel face Main St. Expect to hear a bit of noise from the light...

The hotel itself was fine. What you might expect from a Courtyard. It was clean and the staff were VERY friendly...almost aggressive at times.

The problem I had with the hotel was it's location. It seems to attract lots of homeless people that hang around outside the gates. While I am not an elitist in any way, it was not nice to leave in the mornings or come home in the afternoons and almost have to elbow through the light throngs of folks milling about the entrance of the hotel.

Stayed here with family for the weekend. Hotel is average and basic but a good deal for being downtown. Staff is friendly. Rooms were clean. Bed was comfortable. Remote didn't work but they replaced it right away. Parking is an issue. They charge for parking which is $28 overnight. There is parking garage (not part of the hotel) just a block away where I paid $5 to park overnight. However, garage does close their gates at midnight so if you get home late, you will have to park with the hotel. There is a small shopping mall just across the street and the rail system stop is just a few steps away. We did not use the rail. 5 blocks away is the Discovery Green park.

I've stayed at the Courtyard in Houston several times now, as it is near our offices and good dining. Hotel is nice and service at the restaurant for breakfast has been good. Rooms are pretty much standard fare.

Well when we arrived we were greeted by Houston in valet , very nice gentlemen but they all were great but his name is the one that stuck out ( by the way valet is the only parking options @ $30 a day). We were able to check in with no problems. When we got to our room it was clean, but we had a horrible view which was ok cause I didn't come to look out the window anyway. The only problems I had was the expensive parking $30 dollars a day plus tipping every time we got in and out added up, also I wish they would have had a concierge because even though we had family in Houston, we would have loved some recommendations on the nightlife. Also because the Courtyard and the Residence Inn are connected and have the same room numbers we had someone trying to enter our room, which made my mother and I a little uncomfortable because what if we were not in the room. When I addressed it with the front desk I was told that it always happens ....so maybe more direction can be given so this doesn't keep happening but Overall we had a good stay!!

We were thrilled you chose to stay with us for your 30th Birthday Getaway! It is great to hear you ecountered gret service and enjoyed the clean room!

I wanted to let you know that our valet charge is the most cost effective of the downtown hotels and I will personally follow up on the guestroom number confusion, this is not normal for us.

We truly apprecate you choosing to stay with us!
