“Craft cocktail classics with new and exciting twists - iffy seating and service”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

Drinks are excellent - great ambience. While difficult to find a seat bar service could also be fast. Service was iffy and a bit "snotty" - but, not enough that I will ding the rating. People do not leave their seats - so either all of Houston is drunk and continuously drinking or... they have a wonderful attitude about tables/butts in seats who probably stop making them money 1-2 hours in. Favorites were my julep with GA peachy twist - hubby had the nitrous infused rum/cola - both were excellent. Valet is easy and was quick - and amusing given the size of the parking lot...

“Perfectly crafted cocktails”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

We were there around 5:00 on a Saturday, parked about a block away on the street, the lot is tiny and would fill up quickly. Got a table, no one told us it was bar service only so we sat there a few minutes before asking the question. Drinks were excellent! Perfectly made and in the proper glass. Seelbach cocktail and Cotton Cocktail were great. It's fun to watch all the bartenders working. Only complaint is the noise level of the music - incredibly loud! It just didn't seem to match the quality of the drinks and made you feel like you were supposed to move through there quickly. We're looking forward to trying Midnight Cowboy in Austin to see if the atmosphere is a little more relaxing.

“Great drinks, tough to get a table”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

I've stopped in here for a pre-dinner drink quite a few times, and I never get a table! People stay at their tables for hours here, and for good reason. The drinks are good, made with care. The mojito, though a cliche/classic, is really really amazing. But don't stop there, because they have a very eclectic and imaginative cocktail list.

Parking is limited, you kind of have to park on the neighborhood streets. Double check that you're not in a towaway zone because that is NOT worth it.

“Excellent Bar”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

I stopped in while staying in Houston with a friend. I had never tried absinthe so I figured that was a good enough reason to get the Battle of New Orleans. The drink was incredible and I loved the ambiance of the place. Would definitely recommend it to anyone in the Houston area.

“The Anvil Bar and Refuge did not disappoint! Excellent drinks!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

We stopped by the Anvil Bar and Refue on Westheimer on Saturday evening, July 6th after having dinner for my wife's birthday. Have read about the place and thought we would give it a try. Excellent drinks and lively crowd. Kenny, the bartender, was excellent on both recommendations and making the drinks. The drink menu has many, many choices to choose and will try others on our next visit.

Highly recommend. Excellent drinks for a reasonable price. Not sure what others are complaining about the price. Many other restaurants and bars in Houston charge a lot more for a single drink than the Anvil. I would highly recommend this place for any occasion.
