“We won't rush back”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2012

The first thing that was off putting was that although the parking lot was almost empty, all the parking was blocked off for valet. We had to use the valet, it is like charging for parking. Then we were shown to our table and the brown paper covering was dirty. We cleaned it ourselves and sat down. The manager came over when he saw us cleaning it and offered to move us, but the table next to us looked to be in the same shape.
My husband reported the meatballs and meat sauce were incredible! My dish was pasta with garlic and pulled chicken, was good, but not great. It is very difficult to eat here if you don't eat beef or cheese.
The wine list is wonderful with great prices.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated! The staff is so friendly. The chef came by our table and several members if the staff came by to see if we enjoyed everything. Get the gnocchi! Its lovely!

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2012

Well-chosen wine list with good variety and some good deals for restaurant wines. The menu offers great spins on classic Northern Italian cuisine executed with some imagination. The crispy chickpeas, the seasonal pickled veggies, the insalata trecolore, the seafood salad, and the zucchini, tomato and mint were all outstanding. The globe artichoke hearts were so greasy that they were totally unappetizing and the puttanesca was heavy-handed and overly salted (and puttanesca is supposed to be salty, but this was waaaay over the top). The first thing we told our waiter was that one of us is a vegan and to please be sure that nothing served to that person is made with dairy or meat. We also requested that he double a side dish and plate it as an entree. The dish was delivered not only laden in butter, but also - while doubled in portion - was plated on a tiny side dish. We would not have been able to try it as parts of it would have toppled off the tiny little dish all over the table had one tried to dismantle even a small bite of it. The person who exchanged the tiny dish for a larger one seemed very put out and inconvenienced that he was asked to do this. Once we discovered all of the butter, the waiter insisted that there was no butter in the dish. Once we insisted that he check his information with the kitchen and he did, he returned to our table blaming the kitchen staff and didn't take any personal responsibility at all. It was very difficult to believe him when he insisted that the sorbets were made entirely without milk. We live in the neighborhood and really wanted to like this restaurant. We are so disappointed. Although the menu is fabulous, the food seems hit-or-miss, and the service was unimpressive.

“This is "Chicago Good" for Houston”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2012

This is a really good Italian restaurant in Houston, TX. The decor is warm and inviting and the food does not disappoint. We had the lasagna and the spagetti (signature dish). Both were excellent. The waiter was a bit chatty for my tastes but my wife seemed to like his interaction. I thought it was over the top. The cost was what you would expect for fine Italian dining and the wine selection was outstanding. The "Buratta" appitizer was very good and provided a nice pre meal snack. I would definately return if I am ever in Houston.

“Great place for Happy Hour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2012

Either on the patio or at the bar, you can't really go wrong. The bellini was great, as was the pizza (although I have had the potato/leek pizza before and would say don't go there, try one of the others which are awesome). The meatballs are super and the HH wines are great too. The staff is really attentive at the bar or in the restaurant. The crowds tend to be 'older', 40-50 somethings..not mobs of 20 year olds like in most of the spots on Washington. I've eaten dinner there several times, and the food is great.
