The wife and I stayed here for 1 night to attend a concert at the Toyota Center.

Pros: The property was clean and the room was a typical Holiday Inn Express setup. It is great to have a fridge and microwave in the room. The room was clean and fairly modern. The AC was nice and cold too, which is important in Houston! The property was two blocks from the Toyota Center, so it only took us a few minutes to walk over and avoid the craziness of parking.

Cons: There are really no places within walking distance to grab a bite to eat. Also, there is no close access to an ATM. If you use the one in the lobby, it costs $4 for their fee. Finally, there is very little parking on the property.

Holiday Inn Express, in my experience never disappoints and Downtown Houston is no exception. The buffet breakfast is wonderful. The exercise room is small, but always available and, like room WiFi, is complementary.

when attending events at the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston. I just returned from attending the Democratic State Convention and I've gotta say my friends who stayed at the host hotel were green with envy when they learned my room was $35.00 to $40.00 cheaper per night, even with the discount they received. Plus there was the free wifi, breakfast, and parking (which though I didn't need was plentiful and seemed secure). The hallways were being given a fresh coat of paint on the day I arrived and it was dry and looking good when I woke the next morning. The air conditioner was quiet and worked perfectly. The bathroom was spotless and fully stocked with hair products, soaps and linen. There's in room coffee service, and the television, LG flat screen worked perfectly. It's a short walk to the Convention Center and any number of good restaurants. The staff was informed, informative and helpful.

Room Tip: If your room has a microwave there's a selection of Marie Callendars frozen dinners in the gift shop freezer around the corner from the front desk, if you'd rather stay in and eat for less than ten bucks. Plastic dinnerware if available.

HIE was close to Minute Maid Park and in walking distance to restaurants, shops, and bars. The hotel was nice, very clean, and the staff was very nice and helpful. If you are going to an Astro's game or even at the convention center or Toyota arena, this is the place to stay.
