“Diamond in the Suburbs”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

A great food experience; which stands the test of tastings on multiple occasions. I have brought both business contacts and family here, and every single time, I have left with praise wafting from my dining companions. To boot, this place is in the suburbs of Houston area (Vintage Park, Tomball) which makes this even more intriguing, since midtown and downtown are considered to be a food mecca.

The restaurant serves South African food. Classic as well as some American dishes with South African influence. I normally get the Bobotie to start off the proceedings. This is a creation of Chef Paul for which he won a competition with over 40 chefs. With a shepherd's pie crust, raisin and lightly sweet and spicy beef center, topped with a savory sauce, it’s this combination that makes the dish a true masterpiece. Also try the carrot ginger soup which has fantastic overtures of each ingredient without ever appearing overboard. Going with a steak is a safe but sumptuous bet with the various sauces that adorn the steak aptly complementing the heavenly chunks of protein. The seafood trio, however, can also lay claim to be a crowd favorite. Even the burgers in this place are phenomenal. You can finish all this off with a toffee pudding that will truly raise your spirits and leave you with memories of an exquisite meal.

I can go on about some of the other experiences that I have had here, but why spoil the magic for the rest of the world. Come and taste for yourself what this place is all about and why Chef Paul is no less than a magician in chef's garb.

“One of Houston's Best Kept Secrets!”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

My husband and I celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary in December and decided to revisit Peli-Peli for this occasion. Since we had been introduced to this restaurant when celebrating our son's birthday in September, we were delighted to return to see whether the dining experience would be consistent. It truly was! On our first visit, the waitstaff fully explained the items on the menu and we eagerly anticipated our first taste of South African cuisine. The four of us each ordered a different dish and all four were absolutely outstanding! For our anniversary, however, my husband and I both ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. Both dishes were cooked to perfection! We talked about how good that meal was for days! Don't forget to order the Sticky Toffee Pudding. It is to die for! Great meal, great ambience (small jazz combo), great wine list, no waiting with a reservation, knowledgeable waitstaff. This place won't disappoint any foodie.

“Bravo, Chef Paul!”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

I have never eaten such good food in a restaurant! I am from South Africa. Chef Paul does the country an honor. If you haven't had a Peli Peli experience yet, go! You will not regret it!

“Get a Groupon Before You Go”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Take advantage of their frequent Groupon offers and save. Went to a business lunch, a brunch and holiday dinner here in December. Lunch was OK, chicken, and pricey for a small roasted dry chicken, wide salad and odd spoonful of South African-type coleslaw. Brunch was very pricey although you get quite a bit of food. Dinner included a special South African appetizer that was tasty and unusual, steak cooked exactly right, shrimp delicious and unfortunately, lukewarm sides. The server delivered a long memorized presentation when she greeted us the first time. Peli Peli has a huge following and is often very very busy.
