I often visit Hermann Park, located near the medical center, on the weekends. It's a great park to go for a run/walk. The track measures approximately 2 miles around. In addition, there's a reflecting pond in the middle of the park - which is also great for exercising, picnicking, or just enjoying the scenery. Don't forget to stop by the train station and go on a ride along the park or try the paddle boats, or watch a performance at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. Not only is the park wonderful, but the Museum of Natural Science, the Houston Zoo, and Rice University are within walking distance. You can really make a full day of your visit.

Great Japanese Festival at the Japanese garden there. Many shows, food, and vendors. Must do. Parking is tricky though.

I took the kids here as a quick family break. Park was clean and not too crowded. No issues with other park patrons. We went to the pond and rented paddle boats for an hour. Great fun!

It's old but well maintained. Near the med center and just a light rail ride away from downtown area. Includes a fountain, zoo with its little mini train, swingsets and playground for the kids. Next to the museum district.

I grew up visiting Hermann Park on many occassions, and have always enjoyed myself without giving much thought to the actual venue itself. Now that I'm a parent, I'm revisiting this park and enjoying it with my kids, and realizing what a wonderful asset it really is it to the City of Houston. This park is vast, offers so many picnic spots, lovely gardens, water features, play structures, and houses the Zoo, a golf course, an outdoor theatre, a train ride, and the list goes on...one stop entertainment for the entire family. The grounds are well kept and nicely manicured, not riddled with trash and debris like many urban parks can be. The pedal boats are a wonderful experience. If you've never taken one out on the water, it's very relaxing and fun, and not to mention it won't break the bank. Parking can be a headache some days, especially around holidays, but it's a wonderful park and one that can truly be enjoyed by all. Almost forgot to mention, it's also a wonderful place to take pictures, as evidenced by the numerous people I've seen being photographed in wedding gowns, prom dresses, etc.
