“Especially spring”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

What a lovely find tucked away near downtown.
This is beautiful, especially in the spring. You can stroll in the gardens and also visit inside the home, filled with period antiques. The docents are knowledgeable and friendly.
Well worth the visit.

“A unique museum experience and a part of Houston history”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens showcases the home and property and furnishings and art collection of prominent Houstonian Ima Hogg, and Ms. Hogg was a lady with superb taste and a knowledge of international cultures and Texas history. The tour was quite informative and there is so much to see and absorb here that, literally, you can spend a day at Bayou Bend. The property and the gardens are fascinating also, so if you visit on a day when the weather is nice, you'll want to take a leisurely stroll through the gardens---pictures are allowed there, but not in the home.
If you are from out of state and want to really experience the Texas of the past through the eyes of a fascinating lady who was an important force for good in the community and who brought so much culture to Houston and Texas in general, I'd recommend you set aside at least 4 hours to spend at Bayou Bend. It's not so much an "Art Museum" as it is the home of an art-inclined individual. It's more for someone into furniture and THINGS.
Highly recommended. Looking forward to going back again in the future. The shop sells a fantastic book about the property, though which you can re-live your trip and learn a lot more about Ms. Hogg and the massive collection here.

“Beautiful Mansion in the Memorial Park Area”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

If you are visiting Houston you can walk through a bit of our history. The antiques are beautiful. Many have been donated from old Houston familes. You can also drive through Memorial Park to get there which is a beautiful drive.

“Perfect Pleasure At Every Turn”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

On a romantic interlude one sun-kissed spring afternoon, we toured the mansion and gardens of this grand estate. We bought tickets at a booth beside a spacious parking lot. The suspension bridge nearby was a small thrill all its own. We walked short and easy trails past statuary, topiaries, and fountains and beds of multicolored flowers in bloom. A congenial docent led us on a tour of many rooms in the mansion, each one as well-kept as the one before it. We used the on-site restrooms; each was spotless and well-appointed. If you love local history and love Houston this is a perfect place to discover both - as well as to hold hands and talk quietly while walking with the one you love!

“Beautiful Gardens”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

The historic house is interesting to tour, but the gardens are the highlight. It is especially beautiful when the azaleas and daffodils are in bloom.
