I love modern hotels, so I was excited to try Element. The hotel is beautiful, lots of clean lines, modern decor, but there is nothing that screams super luxurious or expensive in the decor. This hotel is overpriced. It sits right next to a newer upscale shopping area, but that doesn't justify the price for me. The rooms are a nice size, have a full kitchen, very clean and modern but again nothing spectacular. My biggest complaint is the walls are paper thin. I heard every little noise from the rooms adjacent to mine. It was really hard to sleep. Then at midnight it sounded like there was some maintenance going on in the hallway - sounded like drilling or something - so strange. Their breakfast has some unique offerings, nice gym. Again, love the green concept and the modernness of this hotel. The price and thin walls will most likely drive me to choose another property next time.

Funky, modern rooms, full kitchens (full size fridge and even a dishwasher!) Very nice bathrooms.Very modern, big windows and the entire hotel is non-smoking (big plus!) Free breakfast and get a free drink at happy hour. But no room service so don't check in on an evening and expect to order dinner to your room. (they'll tell you to call Domino's.) No phone books in rooms (they say they are "green" so no phone books.) Little detail, but I found it annoying. Wasn't crazy about the openness of the gym - all glass and around the corner from the lobby - you are on display. Overall, pretty good. I might come back again.

Great concept and great hotel chain. Clean, bright rooms, upgraded bedding, laminate floors, kitchenettes, happy hours with free drinks and eats, excellent breakfast included. The bathrooms are modern, with rainmaker showerheads. If you're not searching out Starwood's Element chain you should. Wife and I stayed at the Element Vintage two weeks ago during a Houston house hunting trip. We've also stayed at their chains in Omaha, NE, and Lexington, MA--the same standard in clean bright lines. Aside from problems with their website booking rooms, the stay was pleasant. With the kind of foot traffic hotel rooms have, i don't understand why other major chains don't follow element's approach-- ditch the carpet and faux mahogany dressers and go bright and simple--windows, white built-ins.
My only misgiving in the review is due to the internet prevalence of "star inflation." Hotels that have worn out, ugly inferior rooms seem to pull four and five stars from people for things such as upgrading folks from dismal to not-so-dismal rooms. Rating the Element against those inflated stars it's a five +++++ stars. I mean, in addition, sparkling rooms, i wander down to the lobby, only to have staff offer me a free Heineken and appetizers. Breakfast is cereal, fruit, yoghurt, above average pastries, muffins, egg sandwiches, upscale coffee, juice etc. Great swimmable pool with an outside seating adjacent to the lobby/dining area that let's you take your coffee on the "veranda."
All that said, in terms of stars indicating levels of luxury, the Element is a natural 3.5 star chain. it's not the Ritz and i don't want it to be, because i'm elated with its near perfect mix of pricepoint/quality.

Room Tip: Request no adjoining room door--with no carpet, there's a sizeable gap under the door, inhibitin...

Overall I still really like this hotel, although there are aspects of it showing a little wear and tear. It was a sold out, extremely busy weekend when we stayed here recently but all the employees we had interaction with (while overwhelmed at times) were pleasant and helpful. If you're staying in the Cypress area of Houston this hotel is a good choice.

Extended stay hotels are usually, well, horrible. Element truly surprised me. Great beds. Good layout and design. Well-equipped kitchen. Good breakfast options. Clean to the point of sterile, but I like sterile. This place is great for a night, a week or a month. Westin got it right with the Element brand.

I've been coming to this area for business over the last 4 years and have stayed at most of the hotels nearby here. This Element hotel is probably one of the best Starwood hotels I've stayed at (and i've been to Westins, St. Regis's, W's, and Alofts). I've come to expect a certain quality to Starwood hotels, but this one has impressed me. The perks offered go above and beyond the usual, such as blueberry smoothies, breakfast wraps, and croissants for their complimentary breakfast. On this stay, they've been hosting happy hour Mon-Thurs, they call "Relax Hour". Free Heineken, wine, beverages, chicken wings, cheeseburgers, bratwurst outdoors in their courtyard or by the pool just cannot be beat. Ive never seen other hotels offer these kind of perks.

The rooms are immaculately cleaned and designed to utilize space very well (We have a stove, full-size fridge, dishwasher, storage space and work-desk all in a 500 sq ft room, which is normally a small room for most hotels). The minimalist and contemporary decor is pleasing to the eye, and gives the rooms a feel of simple quality.

Service is always great as well. Their representatives are either hired for their calm and patient demeanors or their training and quality control is good. Timothy might be the manager or assistant manager here, and all our requests were greeted with a "yes" and later he would remember to follow up.

They also have a dedicated guest laundry room that is remarkably clean. With a load of washing or drying at $1.00, there's really no need to go anywhere else. The price is very reasonable considering they could easily charge $2 for the convenience.

The only downside is no in-hotel restaurant, but with so many high-quality eats right across the street at Vintage Park Square, this is not really a problem. In fact, on numerous occasions, I found myself enjoying the company of other guests and having no room for dinner after their Relax Hour meals.

Also, their wireless login requires you to sign into a guest page in their browser, which (I assume) puts a cookie on your computer. This connection sometimes lasts a full day, and sometimes within an hour I have to re-enter all the credentials. It's a small nuisance, but one that should be solved nonetheless.

With nearby Comfort Inns and Wingates prices all creeping up, if you can ever snag this hotel for less than $150, it's really a no-brainer. While wingates are nice, this Element is really in a class of it's own.
