First visit to the Marriott Rayong...about 1 hour 30 minutes from Pattaya...30 kilometers past Rayong. New hotel, with peaceful locatin on a clean beach, with views accross to Ko Samet. Stayed on a free night...was upgraded to an ocean view, deluxe room. 2 types of views, Mountain View, and Ocean View...Ocen View is very nice. Staff all very attentive, despite having to wait for an hour for upgraded room. Everyone very friendly, especially Lek, the Front Desk Manager. Salt Restaurant offers a la carte and buffet dinner, as well as a la carte lunch. Food just average. but priced very affordable...some great wines on offer. Only problem was a band that started playing at 10pm, on the beach, very close to the hotel. Otherwise, a nice, getaway property, with beautiful rooms, and ocena views...

Room Tip: Rooms with Ocean view are best. Weekends, very busy, but during the week, would be very quiet.

Dear JRBlack, Thank you so much for writing your evaualtion of our resort. It is very motivating and encouraging for our hotel team to get the great compliments you have given and I thank you for that. We are working hard every day to make improvements in our service and product and definitely moving forward. I am sorry about the late party on the adjacent resort the other night and will work with them on turning down their volume a little earlier.
Thank you again for your comment and time and we look forward to serving you again in the future.

The nice location, beautiful design( not maintenance )and pleasant but poorly managed staff are the only pluses. Revise that because the Spa is a fair value as well.
Just came from a Bangkok Marriott that combined good food product with good preparation attentively displayed and served. Not in Rayong. Situated on the beach and the seafood is frozen low grade institutional product.
Not a very busy hotel even on the weekend. My guess is that it's reputation has reached Bangkok and the Thais are staying away.

Dear Jackieipoh,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to provide us feedback on your recent stay. I am very sorry our service and food and beverage product was not up to your anticipated standard and am pleased to advise that our menu and offerings are currently under review as well as our ongoing training. It is our policy to avoid buying frozen seafood product unless there is an issue with the supply chain and this would be a rare occasion if it was to happen.
We are very glad you found our Quan Spa to be of good value. It has only recently opened and we are gaining very good feedback.
I hope you will return to visit us again and see our improved performance.
Thank you again for your feedback.

Marriott Rayong is a hotel opened about 9 months ago. It's location is beautiful; you have great seaview from most of the hotel rooms as well as from the large swimming pool.

It's about a hour and a half from Pattaya and the road leading to their ity premises is well maintained and in good order.

Do not expect to be wondering out of the hotel into a lively surroundings; their is no shopping street near or for that matter any other interesting matter to explore. The nearest one is about a 10 minutes drive.

the staff is very helpful and they go the extra mile to make sure guests feel at home.

In short, if you're looking for a great place to unwind and spend a few relaxing days with nothing else on your agenda; than this is the place to be!

Room Tip: both seaview and mountain view rooms have astonishing features.

I came here with family in September.

Pluses:
- 5 Star for beautiful brand new property. Right on the beach.
- All the decor from the lobby to the rooms/suites are really well done in contemporary asian fashion.
- The rooms views of the ocean are fantastic.
- The breakfast buffet selection was really nice. They have everything. And the dining area is very well designed and pleasant.
- Big Pool Area which is family friendly and overlooks the beach.

Oddities Experienced:

- Beautiful Bathroom but big shower design flaw --- the drainage does not work properly. When you have the shower on the water will not drain properly and floods the room. The water went to the doorway. We had to throw towels on the ground to help soak the water.

- Construction was happening at 9am. Unpleasant. They should disclose that on the website or when you check in.

- Bar service at the Pool is pretty bad because, 1: Service takes forever even when it's not busy. 2: They gave us the bill before they even delivered all the drinks we ordered. 3. They don't have servers coming to the pool to take your order you need to get up and get them.

- 8 am maid service - knocking on our day to clean our room. Really? Next day we made sure to with on the no maid notification button.

- The worst part of our experience was when we were hanging out in another family members room. We called for extra towels as we had yet to check into our own room and wanted to shower. The hotel front desk called us back to lecture and interrogate us and ask how many people were in the room and that there was a limit. They then sent someone to deliver the towels, when my cousin went to the door to open it, the hotel person insisted on coming in. It was obviously that they wanted to see how many people were in the room. It was my cousin her husband and me and my husband. There was then yet another phone call to the room after the towels were delivered to see if we needed anything else. We felt insulted to be treated this way as we were in no way disruptive. It was the strangest experience to be treated that way and certainly tarnished our view of the property.

Conclusion: While it's a lovely property, their service is off mark. Some areas of the property had excellent service like the front desk, concierge, breakfast room, and the lobby bar. However, other parts of the experience had a poor level of treatment and the service was not representative of standard Marriott properties.

To the property management:
I would highly suggest putting a few western or european hospitality operations experts at the pool bar and housekeeping. There are service and hospitality failures that are happening on the property due to lack of oversight and training. This can be fixed if management makes it a priority.

We have just completed a 30 day vacation within Thailand starting off with 14 days at the Everson six senses spa in Hu Hin, always amazing then onto the Centera Grand in Pattaya which was full of activities and a Childs dream come true and eventually 6 days at the Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa which was as good if not better than we expected, the hotel is exceedingly good. The design and layout is perfect, the staff and services were above expectations. The bedroom was perfectly clean; the bed was totally amazing with pillows to die for. Possibly one of the best beds in the world. Breakfast was a pleasing experience, the layout perfect and the food excellent. The whole 6 days was a great chilling out experience and would defiantly recommend for at least a week’s retreat. With its tranquil and calm settings makes it a perfect hideaway holiday. For the downside, the location is pretty isolated and the nearest city is a 45 min drive away Rayoung....if you’re looking for a place to unwind and hide this is it you will not be disappointed...

Booked ocean view deluxe room for 3 nights during the middle of the week. The room was very comfortable but with a few design quirks that took away from the usability. Very clean and quiet. Shower was large and excellent. Bed very comfortable and resulted in very good night sleeps. A couple of design no-nos for a new hotel; only 4 useable electrical plugs in the room (3 others used by hotel appliances) and the shower cycled slightly warm to hot and back. Facilities in the hotel were excellent. Huge swimming pool stretching from the hotel to the beach was a big hit with children. A second pool was located with the bar down at the beach. First rate fitness facilities and spa. Single restaurant for breakfasts and dinners. Asian dishes were excellent, western dishes were average. Menu was limited in selection. Restaurant was important as there are no other restaurants in the area that can be accessed without a taxi. All the staff from the front desk, concierge, restaurant waiters, and house cleaners were very pleasant all the time and quite helpful. Hotel occupancy was very low during our stay although the hotel apparently fills up with families on the weekend. Will stay here again because of the beach and the hotel facilities.

We looked at the usual suspects in Thailand of Phuket and Koh Samui and couldn't find anything that met our budget during the school hols. Had we have planned a little earlier we would have planned a trip with another family and rented a villa with a cook... next time for that idea!

Finally a friend pointed us toward Rayong which he called "Phuket 20 years ago" which it certainly is. Plenty of street food, night markets and little thai streets to explore. Surrounding there are national parks with walking trails and water falls and plenty of small country roads to explore.

To the hotel. The Marriott is a brand new and very modern property with two great swimming pools and beach access. We took rooms on the 9th floor (one corner one beach view) and they were perfect. Plenty of room inside and sliding doors open up the space into a very spacious area to rest in. The window lounge with the sea view is perfect for whiling away some hours or an afternoon nap.

Buffet breakfast was excellent with plenty for all cultures. Aside from the usual breakfast there was a selection of Indonesian, Chinese and Indian food almost every morning. Evening dinner was also a buffet rotating around areas of the world each evening. There was something there for kids every night. The staff were great with the head chef even packing some of the broth from the noodle bar for kids soup on one of our road trips.

You are going to need a car to make the most of this area. We rented from BKK and made the three hour trip via the Sriracha Tiger Zoo which filled out the day nicely.

For a nice relaxing holiday in Phuket 20 years ago, go here!

Room Tip: Choose corner rooms facing the beach. They are furthest from the lift but with all the food you will...
