This is now a Petro truck stop. Iron Skillet resturaunt. Still in the process of remodeling, but they are spaing no expense. Very nice, and another great opportunity for corporate America to take advantage of underpaid truck drivers and travelers. I feel as though I'm being robbed everytime I have to stop at one of these places. However, the food is very good, and the staff seems friendly for now. Though the famous old truck stop will be missed, the memories and stories I have of Carls Corner will last forever. Atleast its not a flying j, or pilot.

This was the old Willie Nelson Place.
It is now an Iron Skillet Restaurant.
The buffet was good & so was
the cheeseburger. It is designed with
really nice wood & is very large.

Ever been to a truck stop? If not then Willie's Place at Carl's Corner is rather interesting. Contrary to the name of the town listed (Hillsboro), this restaurant is not in Hillsboro but rather Carl's Corner which is on Interstate 35E about 6 to 8 miles north of Hillsboro. I have been traveling past this location for years and only stopped today. The restaurant is tastefully decorate with a lot of Willie Nelson's memorabilia, included some award Wllie's records. Seating is very nice in both the restaurant in the front and the one in the back. Menu is good with daily specials Monday through Friday. Prices are reasonable. Meat loaf on Wednesday for example. The waitresses are efficient and courteous.Plenty of free parking plus gasoline is available including the eco-friendly Willie's diesel. This is not just a truck stop. I can assure you the family will enjoy this stop. Gift shop located in the same building. We walked past a spotless kitchen which I found rather impressive. This is a country---not a city place, but well worth your stop.

Willie's is a wonderful place. I've stopped there 8-10 times and was never disappointed. Very good food, very good service. Very large portions. I'll go back as often as possible. Lots of Willie memorabilia, too!

Stopped here for breakfast on the first day of 2010. How disappointing! Not something you would think Willie would put his name on! The over-easy eggs were not cooked enough, the butter on the toast, which was barely toasted, was almost non-existent, and the sausage patties were tasteless comparable to dried little hockey pucks. Service was friendly though. Nothing homemade about the meal. Not recommended, at least for breakfast. I suggest another chef!! Im available...... ;-)
