South Prairie Market has some of the best tamales I've tasted anywhere. They had both beef and pork so I asked for a combo basket of each. The meat to corn masa ratio, texture of the masa (pretty sure made w/real lard), the flavor of the oil-based red chili/cumin covering the meat and corn husks was delicious. My friend said she'd tried tamales a few times and didn't like them; that was until she tried one of mine, then ordered an entire basket for herself. I complimented our waitress on how good they were and she said a local lady made them daily. You can tell it in the fresh flavor. A side of their chili came with basket, it was very tasty too.
SPM also had fried catfish or shrimp, red beans and rice, chili, tuna sandwiches and green salads on their menu board as well as cold beer, Texas wines, lemonaide, tea, soft drinks, pie and ice cream. Another board advertised to-go USDA steaks, Texas jerky, smoked sausage, local honey, goat cheese, homemade pies, a variety of sauces, etc. There's also a couple tables on the front porch if you want to dine outside and watch Grapevine's winery tourist traffic meander by. We were there for lunch, not sure what their dinner hours are. Think they were closed on Sunday & Monday.
