Attraction details
Owner description: The Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. The Railroad is serviced by two vintage locomotives which include "Puffy" the 1896 Steam locomotive and oldest continously operating steam engine in the South, and a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive. Passengers enjoy riding in authentic 1920s and 1930s Victorian - style coaches as they take a step back in time and experience train travel as it was in the glory days of the expanding West. Pull into the Fort Worth Stockyards Station and you'll be right in the middle of the Stockyards National Historic District where the Old West comes alive. Have fun at this outstanding retail and entertainment district.

“Christmas in Grapevine”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

Great event for the kiddos! I only wish the train ride had lights or something. It just goes halfway to a field and then goes back. They need to decorate outside on the pathway--maybe even pick up Santa on the way back. Still great for the kiddos. The hot chocolate is EXCELLENT--you get a free coupon while on the train.

“Riding through backyards.”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

Basically, this train is a ride through a bunch of backwards. That is it. Plus, they are demolishing it to make way for a new metro line. You aren't going to miss anything.

“Pricey, but fun”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

We did the Trinity River Run (a round trip from the Stockyards) with two young children in the first class air-conditioned train. The train was about 45 minutes late and it was incredibly hot. That was really frustrating. The train itself was neat though and we all enjoyed the 1 hour trip. The refreshments offered on board were offered at a reasonable price and everyone we encountered on the train was really friendly and helpful. It cost $40 for the four of us (our youngest was free as a lap child). While it was a fun experience and the kids really enjoyed it, I'm not sure we would pay that much again for the trip.

“Leisurely ride in vintage train”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

This is definitely a fun way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The train is comfortable, and has that old-fashioned feel, as everything is original. The ride from Grapevine Main St. to the Fort Worth Stockyards takes 90 minutes each way. You have about 2 hours to wander around the Stockyards and have some lunch before it's time to head back. The first class cars are air-conditioned which is definitely nice on a hot day. Don't count on the wind to keep you cool in the open-air cars. This train does not go fast- it varies between a high speed of maybe 35 to completely stopped when waiting for other trains. The scenery varies from beautiful suburban neighborhoods to industrial. Have fun!

“A fun thing to do”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

My wife and I have taken the trip from Grapevine to the Stockyards in Ft. Worth twice, and enjoyed it each time. There is ample time to do a little shopping and dining at the stockyards during the "layover" and the train trip itself is lots of fun. Highly recommended for couples or families.
