The hotel itself was great. Wonderful staff, very accommodating, and plenty of parking. However if you're planning to go into the city daily as I was, it's a little out of the way. It was convenient for location in South Lake, and obviously to get back to the airport, but other than that you're looking at a 20+ min commute.

The hotel was just minutes from the Rental Car Center at DFW. Room was very clean and large. Breakfast was very good. Business Center is accessible and easy to use. Very nice work work out room. Staff was very efficient and somewhat friendly. Very close to plenty of places to eat. Airport Shuttle runs every 30 minutes, need to register with Front Desk for best results.

Room Tip: Rooms on the West side of the building will be quiter than those on the east (front) of the building...

We reserved this hotel for a short overnight stay while in transit at DFW airport. Having not stayed here before we assumed that the hotel shuttle would pass by the arrival terminal at regular intervals and we'd just hop on but, arriving on American at 930pm, the arrival area was deserted. There were no hotel shuttle details on our Hilton hotel confirmation or on the hotel website so we used the airport information phone to get their advice (why does Hilton always provide driving instructions and, particualrly at an airport property, ignore everyone else who arrives by other means?!). DFW Airport information told us to call the hotel direct which we did and the hotel asked which gate number we were standing at to arrange a pick-up. We had no idea and, despite providing our flight arrival information, they weren't able to give us any clues but we then discovered the gate details printed on the farside pillars in the courtesy van area. With that information provided, the hotel sent their shuttle and it collected us after around 15 minutes.

The shuttle driver explained that we needed to pick up another guest from a different terminal and take them to the Hilton Homewood Suites property before we could then be dropped-off at the Garden Inn. This we did but, after leaving the Homewood Suites we encountered a road closed for construction works. The hotel's shuttle driver took a wrong turn and then got lost. After a couple of miles we drove back to the Homewood Suites where the driver phoned for directions and we eventually made it to the Hilton Garden Inn around one hour after first calling for their shuttle. The driver was apologetic but after ten hours of flying, and in the light of the late hour and the shortness of our layover, we were very disappointed with this aspect of our stay particularly given the relatively high room rate we paid.

Once at the hotel things improved - the room was large and nice, the bed great, the staff friendly, and we travelled very smoothly back in to the airport at 0630 the next morning in no more than 10 minutes. We also really liked that at check-in they booked you a specific time for the return shuttle so there was none of the anxiety you experience at some airport properties when the shuttle gets full and you can't get onboard at your chosen time.

As Hilton Hhonors gold level guests and points collectors we selected and booked this stay several months ago and the rate then was only $40 or so less than the Hyatt which is within walking distance of the terminal. An airport property has to work 100% reliably and, in the light of our experience this week, we'd probably choose the Hyatt or a property closer to the airport if our future travel involves a short overnight layover at DFW.

My wife and I stayed here to get away from the house after a trip to Tenn. Very nice rooms with plenty of room and couch. King size bed was very comfortable especially after adjusting for comfort. Accidentally listed one for breakfast when registering online. Front desk corrected the error and it only added five dollars to the bill for another person as opposed to the $9.99 regular price. Will stay again if the occasion comes along.

We stayed here for my cousins wedding, there were probably 10 rooms of us. This is a newer, nice hotel; very clean with happy hour and breakfast (although breakfast is extra). The first room we were put in smelled very moldy; not sure why? But they not only agreed to move us, but sent an apology card; they were VERY sweet about it. Our only other negative comment is that the water is NASTY; not that the hotel is responsible for that. Overall we all really liked it and enjoyed our stay there.

This hotel was a good value. Stayed here for three nights, arriving before the LSU and Oregon Ducks game. Checked in within minutes of our hotel shuttle picking us up at the airport and found a spacious room and lots of restaurants in the area within walking distance from the hotel. Back from dinner and the bar was closed :( Wanted to wait for our friends, but called it a night. Met for breakfast in the morning...but @ $9.99 it wasn't worth it. Too many people for the LSUvsOregon game and they weren't prepared for a full house. We ate out the next two mornings for breakfast. The staff was exceptional. They were friendly, competent and eager to help. However, I am giving it a four and not a five because of the bar and restaurant area. Don't know if there ever use that bar because it wasn't open any time we were there for the three days we stayed. Clean, comfortable, quiet and easy easy access to the airport! Would stay here again. Thanks to all the wonderful staff people.

Room Tip: Very close to DFW

I stayed here for three nights on a business trip and overall was pleased. The hotel appears quite new or very recently renovated. Parking is plentiful and several restaurants are within walking distance across the parking lot (Joe's Crab Shack, Olive Garden, El Fenix). Proximity to DFW airport is good, yet out of the flight path so the hotel is relatively quiet. Beware as of this time (September, 2011) extensive construction, enough to fool a GPS unit, exists all around DFW airport expressways on the north side, including where this hotel is located.

Hilton Garden Inn does not have suites, and I'd expect in this price range (approximately $150/night) that you might expect to get a suite. However, this location is considered desirable and that affects the price. Suite hotel rooms in this area can average $250/night. If you want similar arrangements yet save a bit of money, the hotels on the south side of the airport are generally cheaper.

Although I requested a King room, I got a double Queen which is acceptable to me. The room is equipped well for a business traveler. Both wired and wireless free Internet (you don't see wired Internet offered much anymore), a good work desk with three outlets available, and an ergonomic desk chair. Comfy chair with ottoman in the corner, flat panel TV with basic cable and a couple of movie channels, nice refreshment station with microwave, mini refrigerator and coffee maker. The bathroom looked fresh and clean, everything worked well, plenty of towels and Neutrogena bath products.

I ate one night in the lobby restaurant which is expensive ($36 for a steak dinner and deluxe dessert). I experienced two minor issues here (they ran out of potatoes, and no vinegar for oil/vinegar salad dressing). Almost no one eats dinner there, but a few people do hang out in the bar watching sports.

In the morning, this same area is used for the $9 breakfast buffet which includes cooked to order egg dishes as well as steam table scrambled, bacon and sausage patties. The self serve items were good (juices, yogurt, fruit, pastries and breads, with the exception of the waffle maker which should be replaced. I'm very familiar with these units which are used in various Hilton chains. This one's nonstick cooking surface is worn out, and they have a can of nonstick spray that each user is supposed to apply before cooking. The waffles ended up with black burned specks.

I think the breakfast should be free as it is very similar to the free breakfasts offered in other Hilton chains with the exception of the cooked to order eggs.

The hotel does not have a complimentary fruit basket in the lobby in the evening. I like to eat a piece of fruit each day, and the only way is to buy the breakfast and save the fruit until later.

I used the exercise facility which is quite nice, several treadmills, couple of ellipticals, some free weights. Cardio machines have TV's mounted and you can tune and listen with your wired headset - they also had a headset there with a bottle of replacement earpads, small towels, and water cooler. The exercise room looks into the inside pool and spa which I did not use.

Although the area appears very safe to me, I believe they might have a problem with theft from cars. I saw multiple signs in the parking lot about parking at your own risk, both at this hotel and the hotel next door. I also saw a police sky crane portable unit, the type of device that temporarily parks and then raises so an officer can scan the parking lots - often used in shopping malls. With this in mind, I made sure to park right in front of the hotel lobby. I did not see any evidence of car break-ins such as broken glass in the lots, and maybe I am overly cautious.

If you like old downtown Grapevine, it is a mile away across the freeway with some trendy restaurants and a bit of historic feel.

Checkout was easy. I did stop by the front desk vs. use their automated checkout with the phone.

Room Tip: medium size room, clean and crisp
