“Exceeds Expectations - Highly Recommended”
Reviewed July 23, 2005

It appears that the two other reviews for this hotel are *not* for this specific location. There are a slew of Super 8 hotels around D/FW airport. This location is specifically the one off of Highway 114 (John Carpenter Freeway), across the highway from the Harvey Hotel. The address is Irving, not Grapevine.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights and were extremely impressed. Generally, when looking for budget hotels, I stay away from the chains with numbers and colors in their titles. We went out on a limb for this stay because the rate on their website beat every other hotel in the area (including the Super 8 Grapevine) by at least $25. We were not disappointed at all with our stay.

The hotel is situated in the middle of a long line of hotels on the south side of 114. It appears that most of the hotels were built in the last five years, and there is room for more growth, so expect even more competition in rates. Coming from the either direction, take the Freeport Parkway exit and head east. Once you get through the Freeport Parkway intersection, note that there is an odd looking intersection at the onramp to 114 and the service road that this hotel is on (you take the fork to the right.) Look for the yellow "Super 8" sign at ground level... the entrance is easy to miss.

Make no mistake, this is a budget hotel, but the corners that were cut to make it so were very well chosen, and there are several amenities that even some full service hotels ignore. Ours was a standard single king room, but at the front desk, they had a sign that said, "ask about our computer and jacuzzi rooms!" Every room includes a television with 60+ Irving cable channels (including standouts like TCM, OLN and WE... not usually found in the hotel TV lineup,) a safe activated by either your own four-digit code or a credit card swipe, iron and ironing board, a three foot-tall refridgerator, microwave, very fast wired Internet access, and tons of electrical outlets. There's even one at wall switch level on the wall opposite the window along with a hook to create an ironing "station." The decor is spartan, but appropriate. The mirror above the desk is a bit high for seated makeup or hair work, but it is removable in a pinch.

In the bathroom, they have installed the curved shower curtain rods that keep you from suffocating in the shower when the water is hot, a built-in hairdryer, and believe it or not, a telephone!

Breakfast is served from 6:00 sharp to 9:00 sharp every day. At first glance, it seems very compact, but when you start to put your plate together, you discover all of the options. Bread, bagels, muffins and sausage biscuits are in a display. Raisin Bran and Froot Loops are the cereal options. There is a waffle machine, a four-slice toaster, coffeemaker and juice machine. Fresh fruit is limited to bananas. Try some sliced bananas on the waffle... great combo! Note that the trash receptacle for the breakfast area is not well-marked: it's under the juice machine.

Our first floor room was quiet and well cleaned. The towels and linens are adequate and well-kept. The air conditioner works well and is not overly loud. Despite being near the end of a runway at D/FW, we were not bothered by plane noise. We did not use the airport shuttle, but saw them interact with other guests while we had breakfast. They were courteous and accomodating.

This hotel has completely changed my perception of the Super 8 hotel chain. It is very obvious that the management at this location cares for its customers just as much as the full-service chains do just down the road. I highly recommend this property for anyone staying in the north side of D/FW area for Irving or Grapevine.

This hotel is listed as a "Pride of Super 8" in their directory, and it lives up to that expectation. A great place for the money. I have stayed here multiple times and the staff is super. The rooms are clean and the internet is fast. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, this is not it. If you are looking for great value, clean rooms and friendly staff, you can't beat this hotel!

We stayed at the Super 8 DFW North in June. This place is extremely basic, even for a one night to be close to the airport stay. It is close to the airport. I found it to be less than clean and poorly staffed. They do charge for parking for all but the day that you stay. The suttle service is not the hotel's it is contract and you better get ready to wait at the airport for your pickup. Once you are picked up be prepared for rude drivers, packed suttle and stopping at every motel on the way back. You are better off paying a little more for better airport accomendations.

It is apparent that this review is not for our property. The guest mentioned that the shuttle is contracted. We own our shuttles and hire our own drivers. Since there are many Super 8 properties near DFW Airport, it is easy to confuse them. There is one a few miles away off of Highway 114, as are we, who does contract their van service. Of course, I cannot be certain that this is the property the reviewer is referring to, but I do know that the two properties are frequently confused. I would like to invite the guest to try our hotel the next time he is in the area. We offer clean, comfortable accommodations, a friendly, caring staff, and reasonable rates!
