“Right on Lake Joe Pool!”
Review of Loyd Park

This park is part of the system of parks around Lake Joe Pool in Grand Prairie (another is Lyn Creek Park and marina area.) There is a $10 vehicle entry fee or you can buy a pass - just realize this is a county park so the pass only works at this park. The rangers are super nice and helpful both when you come in and at the store. They will answer all of your questions and provide you with maps.

When you first come in there is a public beach and picnic area. On the grassy area by the lake they have volleyball set up. In this area across the parking lot there is a store where you can buy some food and supply items as well as rent kayaks. The kayak rental is reasonable and there are suggested scenic paddles.

As you drive further in you will pass the campground, ramp area and hiking trail options as the park wraps around Lake Joe Pool. The campground is very nice and open. You can also rent cabins facing the water if you prefer.

This is a really great park and the lake access is terrific!

Loyd park. I love this place. I prefer this over the state park for a few reasons.
The main reason is because of their beautiful kayak/canoe trail. It is peaceful. Even when it is windy on the main lake, you get to the trail the wind usually dies down. This trail is also great for fishing. Many bass boats go back there. It is too close for them to create wake or go fast at all so don’t let that scare you.
Another reason I love this park is the fact that alcohol is not outlawed here. You can be setting up your site and drink a beer if you want. No worries of a park ranger coming by and telling you to put it in your RV.
And you can see their availability and book online. They also have a Good Sams discount of 10%.
This park also have some very nice events that go on during the year. Halloween is a major one. It happens the last two weekends before Halloween. All the sites have to decorate. If you do not decorate, they will not let you book again. They have a hayride that goes through all the sites. You will either get scared by some of the sites or laugh at them. Either way candy gets thrown in the hayride for the little ones to gather.
We come here for the Charity event of Be Happy Chili Cook off also. That is around St. Patricks day. Dress in Green, drink some beer and cook some chili. What could go wrong?  Always fun to support and bring some awareness to their Charity.
The park is full of critters and bugs but it is camping. Good thing all their sites are water and electric. Their bathrooms are not perfect but for camping, they are fine. Steel toilets and push button shower but at least the place is not swarming with bugs. They are kept to a minimum in the restroom.
Now that they have put in a loop of full hook ups in the back, we bought a season pass. Unfortunately they are not on the water but it is still fine by us. Closer to the kayak put in.
Oh I almost forgot to mention, this park has an area for your horses and trailer parking. It is in the back and not full hook ups. Equestrian area.
And something really cool about the kayak trail, if you go just before dark, the beavers will try to scare you away by smacking their tail on the water as close to your kayak as they can get. It is loud and will scare you, but they don't do anything more than that. It is really neat. :)

My husband and I rented a cabin last weekend. Loved the view of the lake. The beach area was nice and loved the sound of the water. Only down side was that some people there did not clean up after themselves. Left their trash out when there were plenty of trash cans around the picnic tables and beach area

I've camped here only 1 time before. This year they've added a few more things to do like Kayaking. They have also added more cabins and a lodge for non-tent campers. Great for local camping.

We frequently camp here, Primitive lots or lots with connections(Power)Water) Lakeside or not, Reasonably clean bathrooms and showers and hot water to boot! its one of our favorites because of its location, not having to travel out of town too far is a great luxury for a weekend getaway!
