“Dead horses”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

I was invited to "enjoy" an afternoon of racing in one of the corporate suites as a guest of one of the employees of the firm that owned the suite. Food, drink, freebies. What's not to like, right? I love horses so I was all for it.

Well, i watched 6 races and saw three beautiful horses perish due to falls and/or fractures. I was horrified and heart-sick, but those in attendance in our suite said it's "unusual" to have that many horses with broken legs in a single day. I didn't find the words the least bit consoling. This event happened prior to 2013, but I wasn't on Tripadvisor at the time of the actual incident.

The safety and well-being of our equine athletes is our top priority at Lone Star Park. This year we have spent more than $1,000,000 on resurfacing and making improvements to our track to improve safety for our horses and jockeys. Because of our commitment to safety we now have one of the lowest injury rates in the nation and we will continue to dedicate our energy and resources to remain one of the safest tracks in the nation.

“So Fun”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

This place is awesome. They have great food. You can drink beers and watch the horses run at super high speeds. It's on the same circuit as the Preekness. There's even a skatepark right on the property. We went there to watch the horses and it was so hot outside. The valets have to run about a football fields length to get the car in the middle of the heat so you can bet on them too. We hung out in the boxes. We saw Troy Aikman on the day we went. It's a great experience if you get to go. Don't forget to tip your valet. Especially if you win. There's some tasty snacks too. Also, the horses are brought out in this pin area in front and you can see them with the Jockey's. Overall it's great. Try it.

“This is a nice horse track!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

This is a nice horse track. If you just want to go outside and watch the races, it's very inexpensive. To sit inside is a bit more. Look at their web site, where they have ticket prices and information for exact pricing details.

The "OTB" (off-track betting) area is free, and they have a nice bar you can sit in and watch races from around the country (and other sports too).

They sometimes have "dollar beer" specials, but most food/drink is on the more expensive side (like most entertainment concessions). The upstairs restaurant or the buffet for the suites is actually very good, so if you can afford to pay to upgrade, it's worth it!

They have a concert series as well, with great entertainers, for after the races.

Go check it out!

“Family fun, lots of good mini concerts roll through here too”
Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

This is a great way to spend an evening. The park offers many promos throughout the year which makes it very affordable. They put on great firework shows. We have seen a few good concerts out here as well after the horse racing in done, generally not a full length concert but good none the less.
