“It was OK”

It was fun to ride the trolley to the Cemetery but don't go out of your way to walk there unless you're a huge Jesse James fan.

“Jesse James buried in Granbury Cemetery?!”
Reviewed June 15, 2011

Seems a bit odd to go exploring around an old cemetery, but when we heard that Jesse James was buried here, we had to check it out for ourselves ... and sure enough, there was his gravestone - covered in pennies! Apparently there's a lot of debate whether there's truth to the authenticity, but I guess it just adds to the curiosity.

We also came across the gravestone of the founder of Granbury, General Hiram B. Granberry. who killed on the porch of his headquarters during a Civil War battle in TN.

Pretty cool place to explore. Loads of beautiful old oak trees. Many of the graves have no identification because they were only marked by a stone, a few of the very old markers are hard to read, or can no longer be read.

We also had a look for this 'not-so-notable bird dog named Rex', but weren't successful - guess we'll just have to make another trip out there to look again.

If you check the place out in the summer time, bring some water and a hat. Also wear flats if you're going to wander around and read some of the gravestones as the ground is not level in places.
