A man made (1930s- 40s FDR project) lake / power dam on the Brazos River to provide rural electrification. Some great scenery and sheer canyon walls. Deep clear water. Many nice homes now dot it's shores . Out past where the West begins, about 55 miles west of Fort Worth. Not many hotels but a Cliffs resort and golf course. Cabin and boat rental available. Campsites also.

We head there was so much damage from the fire. This lake looked great. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Great lake for boating, fishing & water fun. Hell's Gate is the ultimate hang-out place! Great places to eat are The Cliffs & the Harbor. Wonderful place to camp is the State Park, on the water & great cove for skiing.

The water here is some of the clearest lake water in Texas. Maybe only Lake Travis near Austin is clearer but most lakes in Texas are fairly murky from runoff. The surrounding hills, cliffs and trees add to the natural setting. Although this is a hot-spot for water sports/activities don't forget that there are tons of hiking, biking and running trails all around the lake. Don't forget you are in Texas so expect sweltering heat and parched surroundings in the summer.

In-laws have a nice vacation home on the lake. Wife and I love to go snorkel, jet-ski, and relax on the patio watching the boats go by. Can be pricey, but worth it. Make sure you fuel up, as gas on the water at the marinas is nearly double the $$ on the road at other gas stations.
