A nice, laid - back park with easy trails, shaded camp sites and a small lake to fish, canoe, or paddle boat (rentals right there and inexpensive). San Marcos River also runs through the park. We tent camped 3 nights and enjoyed every minute! Park Hosts are helpful and informative.

We arrived at Palmetto State Park after dark and luckily found a nice campsite. We put on our headlamps to pitch our tent and then put out our dinner on the concrete picnic table. Later we walked over to the building with sinks and toilets to get ready for bed. Outside we met the very nice and helpful park ranger who said he would check with us in the morning. We were able to see layers of stars from the mesh roof of our tent. In the morning, after paying for our campsite and having a cup of coffee, we took a shower, had breakfast and planned our day. We started off with a walk on trails winding around palm trees and along the water. We could have stayed longer in this lovely park but decided to head off for another adventure.

It is right off of I-10 between Houston and San Antonio and if you can spare a couple hours to enjoy easy trails, lush landscape and very interesting history. There is also a small lake and you can rent canoes and paddle boats. I wish I would have seen it sooner.
