We were recently visiting Glen Rose and decided to give Pie Peddlers a shot after reading all of the great reviews. We wanted to grab a pie for Thanksgiving on our way back into town but we wanted to get out early and they weren't scheduled to open until 10am. My husband happened to mention this when he was going to grab us a couple of pieces of pie a couple of days before we were to leave, and they offered to let us come pick them up on our way out at around 6:30am (since they were going to be there making pies anyway). Little things like that go a long way - of course the fact that the pies are divine certainly helps too :) The pies were delicious and we were impressed with the service we received.

Positives: good pie, historic area, casual atmosphere
Negatives: limited selection, limited parking

Historic downtown Glen Rose, Texas, is a great place to explore on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Walking around the courthouse, visiting the museum, and shopping, can generate an appetite.

Fortunately, several specialty restaurants are available to fill visitor's tummies with good eats.

We'd done the things mentioned above and were ready for a break. My wife saw Pie Peddlers as we were shopping, and asked to go in. It was a good choice.

Keep your eyes open if you visit. Because it's in the middle of the block, Pie Peddlers blends with other stores. A smallish sign on the canopy can be seen from the courthouse lawn, but not much further.. As you draw closer, signs on windows become more visible. A portable sign on the Barnard Street (the main thoroughfare) invites motorist to detour half-a-block for a snack.

Inside, the place is spacious, clean, and homey. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, including the staff. The owner was very friendly and informative.

Pie is available whole or by the slice. The daily menu listed a eleven flavors, but only six were in the showcase. What they had on hand looked wonderful.

We chose a slice of pecan to share. The pecans on top were fresh and the crust was flaky. The filling was thinner than we were accustomed to...it spread over our plate. However, it had perfect flavor.

Overall, this was one of the best "pie shops" we've had the pleasure of visiting anywhere, and look forward to stopping in again. Be sure to check current hours online before going. Like a lot of places in Glen Rose, they are closed various days during the week.

Just had a suprising experience at the Pie Peddlers. My Mom ordered pecan pie, and her piece was burned. She wasn't going to say anything, but couldn't eat it, so mentioned it to the server.
She is a local Texan, who grew up on pecan pie, and is not a picky person.
In fact, that server told the owner/pie maker, who came over and proceeded to chew her out, saying, all of our pies are like that one, and this is how we cook our pies, and people buy a lot of them.
Wow, no apology, no admitting that the pie was obviously burned, just acted insulted, with an attitude of "I don't need your business or opinion."
I am shocked, and embarassed, as I happen to be a local.
We don't know the owners, nor are we competitors, we just know we will never be back.
We are all human, and just the act of making it right would have been all that was required. There was no need to be rude, and hostile to a very nice lady, who is- you guessed it- sweeter than a slice of pecan pie...just not from here, thank you very much!
