We've now stayed on both sides of the street (motel is in two separate areas, with a street in between) and the side with the office and pool might be kept cleaner than the other side. We made reservations 3-4 weeks in advance but couldn't request a room by the pool, we were told. That's fine, but we also were given a room with one bed instead of two. Again, not a deal breaker but might be for families with more than just two traveling. The room we had this last trip was located behind the Big Cup Eatery. Thankfully it was pretty quiet there. The AC worked very well and had no offensive odor. The room seemed that it hadn't been in use for some time. Dead bugs in corners of the room. A few small spiders we had to kill, too. But it was the splotches of dark colored sticky stuff that really turned us off to the place. On the wall high above the toilet, on the wall above the shower, on the back of the door were what we hoped were not blood stains. The toilet was old, but it didn't need to come with a urine smell, as if the commode had been sitting with contents inside from the last user. Our curtains over the front (only) window wouldn't close. One part hung down and gaped, so we used hair clips to secure it. Wifi was also very spotty. Couldn't get it to connect after losing the connection until several frustrating minutes later. We were also surprised to see no mattress pad whatsoever, only the sheet on top of the mattress. We love independent motels and would rather support them than the chains. If you can get a room close to the pool, you might be fine. Our last stay across from the pool was great. But there is no guarantee where you'll be placed and that's just a crapshoot we don't want to take again.
