I am a frequent traveler and have had the opportunity to stay at some of the finest resorts and truly feel Rough Creek Lodge falls into this category. Specifically, the hospitality and service was amazing, food was great and the facilities were beautiful. If there was one thing that truly stood out, I would have to say the staff. They were great and made us feel like there were either old friends or people that we would want to become friendly with. There were no exceptions. I am amazed that I have driven past the entrance for 14 years on the way to the hill country and never realized there was something this spectacular only 2 hours away. I'll be back!

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms!

Excellent resort for family vacation, corporate retreat or fun with friends. Jeremy from the Berretta house, Jason from the restaurant, the Chef and his team, they are all outstanding professionals. Rooms are gorgeous, facilities in perfect shape and management exceptionally caring.

Hard to find as Google Maps and various navigation systems drop you at a wrong location but well worth the search.

We spent two nights in June and were blown away with the amenities and service. We had great communication before even arriving and were welcomed by name an handed a gift bag with snacks, pool toys, and personalized keys and cookies for the kids. Some of the highlights of this top-notch experience:

- Awesome breakfast buffet. They doted on my kiddos bringing endless glasses of chocolate milk and wrapping them in blankets (it was chilly most mornings). Homemade granola, super muffins, biscuits, homemade sausage, applewood smoked bacon

- Zipline, bungee trampoline, moon bounce, rock climbing wall. Open 2x a day for two hours and staffed by conscientious and friendly staff.

- Spectacular pool with lazy river and water slide plus kid pool and jacuzzi. The pool is not huge, but it is quite large (and appropriately sized for the size of the resort) and has beautiful tile work and all sorts of neat features. The pool staff brings out big fluffy towels and cold bottled water. We had lunch in one of the shaded casitas - not cheap but really good. They bring out ice cream treats in the afternoon.

- Kids activities galore. My little guys loved the petting farm, pony rides, and little train ride (all included along with a hayride as well). We also took advantage of the free kids camp so we could enjoy an adult dinner - they served an elaborate buffet of kid-friendly food and my kiddos didn't want to leave. So many toys, games, movies, etc.

- Yummy dinner. The quail appetizer really was WOW, but my husband thought the salads were pretty good as well. Great steak. Strong wine list (with good explanations on the neat iPad wine list), and amazing deserts. As good as anything I've had at Capitol Grille or other high end places.

- Super suite. We had a suite to accommodate our larger family and loved being able to spread out. Beautiful bathrooms, fancy furniture, 3 tvs - so nice, and the bottled water and snacks were a nice treat. Love the separate toilet and separate tub and shower.

We rented a Mule (super fun), but didn't get to many of the other activities including horseback riding and hunting. I have not doubt that they are top-notch.

Yes, it's expensive, but, once you include all the food and activities, it is comparable to any of the other big Texas resorts like Great Wolf Lodge or the Marriott Hill Country Resort for a much nicer experience.

Room Tip: If you have a larger family - consider splurging on a suite. They are huge and very nice!

Stayed for one night with the family to scout this place for a potential company sales retreat. We stayed in a cabin because all of the rooms were taken due to a wedding. The cabin was nice and fairly clean. There are built in activities that paint the picture of all inclusive, but most do not start until 4pm. The food was good but not great, and slightly over pretentious. Nice place, but not a value for the price.

Dear Guest of Rough Creek Lodge,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Rough Creek Lodge. It was a pleasure to have you as our guest. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with feedback.

During the check in process you should have received a letter from me outlining all of the activities and services that are offered throughout the day. Many are complimentary, such as, zip line, climbing wall, bungee trampoline, bikes, hayride, train ride, pony rides, fossil hunting, horse shoes, kids playground area, petting zoo, kids ranch house with a variety of games, all pools, and fishing at Mallard Lake with fishing equipment and boats included. I am sorry if you did not receive my welcoming letter with the activities outlined hour by hour.

There are other fee based activities that do require an appointment, like horseback riding, ATV’s and Kawasaki mule rentals, five stand shooting sports, long range rifle, and other guided activities (seasonal hunting, by appointment, takes place throughout the year).

I am sorry that your dining experience did not meet your expectations. We take great pride in providing the highest quality of fresh foods available including locally produced farm eggs, herbs, cheese and Premium Gold Black Angus Beef, which roams our property.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond. I appreciate your business and feedback.

Our family stayed at RCL the week of Memorial Day. We have three small children (aged 7, 3, and 3) and wanted something family-friendly that was also very nice. RCL was the perfect fit for us.

ROOM
The accommodations were very nice and comfortable. Our suite was perfect for our family of 5. Our back balcony over-looked the lake and the beautiful scenery of this part of Texas.

FOOD
We were quite impressed with the cuisine. The steak was out-of-this world and the breakfast buffet was wonderful. Definitely do the southern thing and try the biscuits and gravy.

STAFF
Helpful in every way. They were always willing to lend a hand with whatever we needed.

ACTIVITIES
Our kids loved the pool. Our 7 year old could live on their water slide and the twins enjoyed the small adjoining toddler pool. The zip line, trampoline, fishing, and all else was lots of fun.

This is a perfect choice for us because it's just a 90 mile drive from Dallas (we're already scheduling our next visit). But, even if we were hours away, RCL would still be a destination of choice. Definitely check this place out.
