“Our stay at Inn on the River”

I wanted to share our experiences (notice plural) with Inn on the River. We have been there 4 times and every single time we have stayed at the Inn, we have been absolutely thrilled with our stay. The staff is always friendly and ready to help as well as the food has never let us down. Many places are inconsistent with their food, but not the Inn on the River! Absolutely WONDERFUL!!!

The Inn on the River is an amazing place to stay !! Pictures on their website is exactly how it is
in person. Each room has a unique 'theme' or ambiance, and have wonderful view of the property or surrounding property. Walking distance to the historic square, food was wonderful,
and service from the staff was spectacular. If you need a place to renew your spirit, this is the place to be. Will clearly return, and absolutely recommend !

We booked the "girls' night" package at Inn on the River for a little R&R for two mommy-to-be friends before the arrivals of their little bundles of joy. Our experience was flawless from beginning to the end of our short 1 night stay. We informed the innkeepers of the pregnant ladies' situations, and they were great to accommodate their room with non-alcoholic sparkling wine (though technically their cheese plate still had soft cheeses) upon our arrival. Our 3 (actually 4 including salad) course dinner was divine. I didn't expect much from the food at the inn considering experiences with B&B's in the past, but the detail in each course was stunning. From the grilled pineapple slices and the candied pecans in the salad to the fresh berries on the creme brulee, the Inn left no detail amiss. The breakfast the next day was also tasty and more than sufficient between fresh fruit, a muffin, a breakfast burrito, bacon, and potatoes.

After dinner, the innkeeper saw that we were interested in playing a boardgame, and kindly set up a table for us in the front room. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. My only complaint is that the (queen) rooms are a little small, at least for 2 adults with luggage, we had to work around our suitcases. Also the bathroom lacked counter/storage space due to the pedestal sink. There was also no towel rack, so manuvering around the bathroom was a little difficult.

The back porch of the inn offers a serene view of the Paluxy River. All in all this was just the quaint getaway that us girls were looking for. Thanks for a great time!

I called the Inn on the River in Glen Rose, Texas, to book a room for our anniversary. I specifically asked for a quiet room. The lady said "All our rooms are quiet". When we arrived, we had been booked in a first floor room by the driveway. I asked if we could be moved due to the sound of cars driving up and down the drive. The manager said the two rooms across the hall were booked and we should turn the A/C fan on to mask any noise. Later that evening, the lights from the cars did keep me awake and the people above our room kept walking on very squeaky floors. Finally, at midnight, we decided to leave and informed the manager. She told us we could have the room across the hall, which I had asked about earlier and was told was not occupied! I felt like we were not taken seriously about needing quiet. Both my husband and myself were awake until at least 1:30am. For $179.00 a night, we should have gotten what we requested or at least told what to expect. It's hard to enjoy the setting and the food, if you are exhausted.

Room Tip: It's really not the place to go if you want to sleep.

I am so sorry that this Guest did not have the positive experience that each of our Guest deserve. I was made aware of the situation first thing Sunday morning and felt that the InnKeeper handled it to the best of her ability. Upon arrival, the Guest was not happy with the room that she reserved. She did have a choice of rooms at the time that the reservation was made. She was offered the rooms available, and the prices, and chose the reg Queen room. The King room, that we moved the couple to during the night, was one of the rooms available at the time the reservation was made, but was more expensive and the Guest did not choose to pay the price. The traffic noise coming down the driveway were the Guest coming in from "The Promise" and they were all in by 11:30 p.m. We are always sympathetic with any experience of our Guest that is not to their satisfaction and try our best to make it right. We cherish all our wonderful Guest and are saddened if one is dissatisfied.

For our 7th anniversary, I wanted to treat my wife to a couple of nights in a great hotel. I wanted her(us) to be pampered. I wanted the focus to be on us, and not have to worry about anything at all. Turn down service, wine, chocolates - I wanted all of that kind of stuff.

I looked at places in DFW - all the usual recommendations, Hilton, Zaza, Belmont, Magnolia, ect. They were all chock full of reviews of people paying for that service and not getting it. You've got teenagers checking you in and more concerned about their Facebook and texts than your experience. You've got traffic, parking, noise, crowds, and ahhhhhhh...why am I doing this?

So it occurred to me; go spend our anniversary in Glen Rose at Inn on the River, the place we went for our honeymoon.

The place is smaller than those DFW places, so you are the management's main concern. Want ice for your wine? Corking service? Turn down service? They don't just hand you a corker or tell you where the ice machine is...they do it for you.

The rooms are cozy. You feel like you could move in. There's no TV, so you can focus on relaxing, rather than falling into your habits of watching the drivel on TV. (We did watch a movie on my Laptop, though) The garden was beautiful, with the soft glow from the pathway lights in the evening. When we showed up, there were two couples playing guitar on the porch and singing Beatles songs, who we joined after checking in. Even the guests are always the friendly type.

So, why pay more for less to stay in some trendy hotel in DFW?

I'm currently purchasing a weekend stay for my parent's anniversary.

Room Tip: The pricier rooms face the garden out back, but each room is beautiful and cozy with a decent view.

Our stay at The Inn On The River was excellent in all regards. The ambiance was perfect, with the river as backdrop to the beautiful grounds. The food was delicious and impecably served by a friendly and professional staff. We would return to The Inn, if for nothing more than the exceptional food service. The facilities were beautiful and well kept. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our only inconvenience during our stay was related to having only one chair in our room.
We would definitely return to The Inn, in the future, and would recommend it to our friends.

We had a wonderful time at Inn on the River. The event was suppose to take place outside but they moved it indoors due to weather. They handled the relocation perfectly! The food, music and hospitality was all wonderful. We will be back!
