This is a very special retirement community near Austin, Texas. It has an abundance of amenities, beautiful grounds, and homes, and charming people. There are three excellent golf courses, four swimming pools, all sorts of arts and crafts, a garden center, softball field and a community full of fun, exciting people. I would not be surprised if it is not the number one place in the nation for retirees.

“Not for tourists”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Sun City is a wonderful place to live. One member of the family should be 55 years old or older.
Amenities include 5 swimming pools, 2 gyms, about 30 tennis courts, woodwork shop, college level classes, three PGA rated golf courses, numerous clubs with dedicated meeting rooms for pottery, stained glass, photography, fabric and fiber. The computer club has about 2000 members and a lab with multiple computers and lots of up to date software and mentors.

Multiple lakes, fish and release, model airplanes, model boats, pet friendly are additional features that make this a nice place to live.

Cons: About 10 to 20 minutes to the grocery and 40 to 90 minutes to Austin TX depending upon your street address and traffic.

“We like Sun City a lot!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We've lived in Sun City for about 5 years and still enjoy living here. There's just so much to do, all sorts of activities, and lots of new people to meet.

The community itself is very well laid out, and attractive. The landscaping is very good. Home prices vary, so one can usually find a price point that appeals.

“Sun City”

Sun City is a well laid out, park like setting for retirees to enjoy. It was so relaxing to turn onto Del Web drive after fighting Austin's hectic traffic daily while working. Deer and wild turkey as well as a variety of other creatures including wild hogs and coyotes can be seen or heard frequently. We lived there many years and were sorry to leave. The recreation centers have been improved and expanded. You don't need a car if you want to shop at the village store, go to the dentist, too. There is a small clinic and a Walgreens within golf cart distance. Cars are nice if you want to drive the extra mile (or two) to HEB grocery store. You can even get to church by golf cart, or find a friendly neighbor with a car to take you to one of many local congregations in Georgetown. Children may visit, summer activities are geared toward a camp-like atmosphere to keep them entertained. Neighbors are generally friendly and helpful. 2 beautiful golf courses grace the premises. Both recreation centers have showers and pools.

“Superb Active Adult Community”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We've lived here almost five years and we love it. From my perspective, you will visit here only if you're considering residing here, either part-time (snowbirds) or full-time. Planned community of 7500 homes, with 1000+ still to go. Website is https://sctxca.org. Variety of rental or lease homes are also available from both the developer and residents. Situated in Georgetown, up the road from nearby Austin, Tx, music capital and silicon valley of Central Texas. We love it, after having lived in NJ, MS, TX, AZ, WA to CA, this is our last move. What are your hobbies or interests? There are probably loose knit or formal groups with the same interest(s). Excellent, diverse resources, talented people (phew!) and very active groups for softball, tennis, bocce ball, pickle ball, table tennis, senior university, languages, many types of arts and crafts, computer lab and instructions, singing, acting, dancing, radio-control modelers, horticulture gardens, beekeeping. Oh, three golf courses, three amenity centers with two outdoor and two indoor pools, hot tubs, and two fitness centers with professional trainers. Separate buildings for billiards and woodworking. Organized travel and cruises opportunities; many trips offered both local and international. Homes are grouped into 'neighborhoods' for governance and social purposes. Monthly mixers, wine tastings, and 'gourmet' dinners - any excuse for a party. Couples that are actually happy together! Two parties to honor 50-yr. anniversaries so far this summer in our neighborhood of 80 homes. There are rules, of course, but in my opinion they're smart, reasonable and flexible. Yearly dues are $1,060 currently. Well planned and very well kept, attractive community. Veteran? - with local donations the community has built a Veterans Memorial Plaza and holds multiple annual tributes/ceremonies, with participation by nearby Ft. Hood personnel and local high school band. Currently we enjoy a strong financial position. Several community wells (non-potable water) are used for common areas and golf course landscaping. Strong programs extant to control wildlife, for fire and flood safety, water conservation, emergency management, etc., oftentimes managed and manned by volunteers. No snow or icy weather. Excellent breadth and depth of medical resources nearby. CONS: Hot in summer, currently 100+F for at least seven days, ergo snowbirds, and currently extended drought, with local lakes quite low. Hail damage this summer (first time in our five years here) was a huge bonanza for roofers.
