Cute little place to eat-in, but we chose ordering carryout. For the most part the barbeque was just okay. We had the beef brisket and sausage. They didn't have a lot of smoked flavor and they were average at best. The sides were lousy.

OK, so the Pit Barbecue is not listed in the pantheon of Central Texas barbecue joints like Louie Mueller's or Cooper's and that's too bad. Or, that's real good if you are looking for an honest BBQ meal that won't cost a fortune. Along with efficient and friendly service.

The Pit is appropriately unpretentious and it won't win any prizes for ambience, but it is spotless inside and comfortable. That's good, because the emphasis is on fresh and tasy food, not the decor or the view.

My fave is the so-called child's plate, perfect for the young and the young at heart. It's your choice of a generous chopped beef sandwich or roasted dark chicken meat and a whopping big baked potato OR two sides, in good-sized portions. You'll enjoy the ranch style beans, the crunchy coleslaw and the southern style smashed potato salads, with its mustardy tang. beans

The brisket at The Pit rivals any of the big BBQ kahunas in these parts. Drive-through service is speedy. So is the cafeteria-style line.

Great brisket ,but the sauce is not flavorful. Service is fast and I like the drive-thru.Prices are reasonable and good for groups.

Love the BBQ here....and the sides are wonderful. I have been going here for 25 years. They even will cook your turkey, ham in their ovens for a reasonable price. You also can go inside and eat or drive thru and pick up dinner. Your choice and the food is wonderful.

I've never been disappointed here, always receiving a good meal from a friendly, professional staff. This is nothing fancy, just fresh, tasty barbeque. I love their brisket (I ask for "moist" although the lean would certainly be healthier) and their chopped beef sandwiches and the baked potatoes are always good. Their ice tea is excellent. Good cobbler (although everyone in my family is sad that they don't seem to ever have cherry anymore. We usually don't get the chicken, as the leg is typically a bit dry.
