“freaking fantastic”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

I think it's easy to be skeptical of a greek restaurant that is off the highway, in georgetown and looks like it used to be a taco bueno. However, we looked up the reviews for Plaka and they were beyond fantastic and it was PACKED on a Friday night as we drove by. We had to give it a try the following Saturday afternoon and we were not disappointed. Service was quick (it's cafeteria-line style) and the food was beyond fantastic!

“Love this Place”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

This place is owned and run by a wonderful family originally from Athens. The food is authenitic and good. When in a hurry at lunch, I love to drive through for the Greek salad. Nothing fancy here, but good quality and nice people.

“Not bad”

Decent Greek food. Falafel was meh, the gyros were good, but the desserts are awesome! I would go again.

As a devotee of really good and authentic Greek cuisine" (years living in NYC and Washington, DC) I should have known better than to stop at this place. My first clue: A cafeteria set-up. Sad looking food. Servers who looked and sounded bored or clueless.

I ordered the falafel plate, as I didn't want to spend too much money the first time out. How can you mess up falafel? Well, they did. It was obviously made from a boxed mix; inedibly salty and dried out (who knows when it was fried or how long it was sitting in the warming tray.) Falafel is supposed to be freshly fried, in small patties crunchy on the outside and fragrantly tender-creamy on the inside. They looked and tasted like hockey pucks.

The only saving grace was a decent avoglemono soup that had some rice and decent chunks of chicken; a tad salty, but edible. Kind of a Greek style tortilla soup; no kidding.

I left all the food on my plate, except for the soup. If you are familiar with Greek food, run, run, run. If you aren't familiar with it, you could always order a Greek salad, I guess. Why bother?
