“Nice Location, Nice People, Great View”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

The Victorian Condo Hotel was wonderful. We stayed there from July 6-9 & had a great time. A friend of our let us use her condo & had a fun enjoyable extended weekend. The staff was very helpful & seemed to care about the guests. For example, on our last day as we started to load up to go home, we noticed we had a flat on our car. One of the maintenance guys, Kelly, saw me & offered me his air compressor to fill my tire up, so I could get to the Wal-mart to get the tire fixed. That wasn’t in his job description & he could have not gotten involved, but he was helpful &, to me, that means a lot! The pools were nice & well maintained & the hot tubs were awesome! The location was good & the view of the Gulf was nice, (but I guess that depends on if your room has a Gulf view). All in all we had an enjoyable experience there.

I reserved two of their two bedroom rooms for a bachelorette party weekend for girls. I get down their early to ensure that everything was taken care of, we walk into the first room a and it looked like someone or something had thrown up all over the kitchen and the dishwasher was filled with this brown water...the entire room smelled awful. The management tried to say they could fix this, however we decided to switch rooms. The next room we switch to, we find out the air conditioner does not work and with 8 girls in this room that was not acceptable. The 3rd room we got to we try to get in and all our keys don't work. Once we finally get in the refridgerator wasn't working. The next morning however maintenance put in a new fridge....I will say the only reason I did not rate this at terrible was that the hotel staff was extremely kind and helped us in any way they could....however this condo is just not well kept and I met several unhappy customers.

This hotel had a couple of major glitches, however, out of the 15 years I've stayed here this is the first time I've encountered anything negative. It is absolutely one of my favorite places to stay on the island. I have no idea why my bed wasn't made up upon arrival, or why when I called and they said they'd take care of it and left for hours, I came back to the room in the same condition. I can say, however, that they were perfectly professional and courteous when brought back to their attention and someone showed up immediately to take care of the situation. The pool is wonderful, the rooms are usually clean and the staff is always accomodating. It's also in a convenient location directly across from the beach and near restaurants.

Room# 2303
PROS: Great View of Ocean, 3rd floor so we could use elevator, lots of room for 2 adults & 16,14,8 year olds. Great A/C brrrr, soft comfortable beds, Flat screens in all both bedrooms & LR. Full bath and a half Jack N Jill style. Room was clean, no bad smells. Lots of towels. Easy access right off of elevator, room has nice set up and you can have alone time and not feel cramped up! Extra locks on doors entry as well as master makes you feel secure, fast room service-fixed our frig not working on arrival, great areas to BBQ-GREAT pits.
CONS: 1970's decor including bathrooms, frig is not a full so keep ice in coolers, only 2 electric burners, no oven but does' have large microwave, TV's in bedrooms only pick up 4-5 channels NO showtime like in LR why? not sure. No-one helps with loading or unloading so find the 1 and only dolly fast. Room is very out dated, even bed spreads take you back in time (giggle)!
Overall we will be back, price was fair and with a family you have plenty of room. TIPS: Get grocery from Kroger or Wal-mart only 1-2 blocks away! Load car early and get to beach before 10A for best spots! Take kids to Schlitterbahm?, pleasure pier, & dont miss out on eating a BBQ at "Queens Bar-B-Que OMG! Cook burgers/dogs on pits and save money at condo! Great large pools for adults/children at condo. Fair to good work out room! Hope this has helped someone. Last tip: When you book a room look for "Completely Up-dated" or you may get to travel back in time on arrival! lol it was still alot of fun!

We recently stayed at The Victorian and loved the view of the Gulf along with the convenient location to the seawall. The room was clean, but most of all, we loved the friendly staff, especially Stacy who made our reservations. He got it right! Thank you!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a pool side room.

We enjoyed our stay at the Victorian early last month--in town for the annual Galveston Historic Homes Tour (always enjoyable). And we've stayed at the Victorian many times, as well as at Casa Del Mar, Seascape, and The Galvestonian. We come back to the Victorian because of the view and its convenient location. There's a Super-Wal-Mart next door. We walk there to buy food or virtually anything else we might need. We walk to a Mexican restaurant for margaritas on their patio while we watch the waves. We walk to an ice cream shop. We walk to a bike rental shop. The beach is across the street. Granted, the Victorian is not fancy, but we like it.

Last month we were in a unit on the top floor of building 7. We like buildings 5 and 7 because they overlook the pool courtyards, have unobstructed ocean views (can't see any commercial signage or traffic signals), and the balconies have side walls giving more privacy. When we are not out having fun in Galveston, we are usually sitting on the balcony watching ocean.

The Victorian is a "Condo-Hotel" and each unit is privately owned. Most are in a rental pool run like a hotel. Some are not in the rental pool but are rented out by the owner. (We've not stayed in any "by owners".) There is a lot of variety in the decor of the rental pool units. Some are better than others. We have stayed in some really cute units decorated more like a beach cottage than a hotel room. Not everyone likes such variety. Management does try to accommodate you if you're not pleased. We have NEVER encountered any insects of any kind in any unit we've stayed in. The most annoying things we've encountered are these: out-of-order ice machines and management's or security's lack of regard for dealing with problem people in the pool areas. (It looks like non-guests often use the pools--we've seen people pull in the parking lot, carry a cooler from their car to the pool and proceed to party, then after a while drive away.) But I digress. We like the Victorian and will continue to use it as our Galveston beach place.

Room Tip: We like buildings 5 and 7 because they overlook the pool courtyards, have unobstructed ocean views...

My family and I recently stayed at The Victorian in Galveston, Texas. There are five of us, so we rented out a condo with one bedroom, bunk beds, and a pull-out bed. While the location is right across the beach with a good view from some of the condos and with a large complex, we were horrified to discover two rather large bedbugs inhabiting our pull-out sofa bed. Not only was the mattress insufficient for comfort or back support, it had pests! We were immediately upgraded to a larger condo with a better view, but it was rather suspicious that the managerial staff were not surprised to hear about the bugs. The new room had no issues, but no one slept that night until all the beds were double-checked! Be careful with the housekeeping in this hotel!

A good tip for wary travelers would be to purchase a handheld UV light that can illuminate bedbugs and any larvae or trails left by them in beds, and always check beds especially the less frequently cleaned pull-outs! We know we will for sure in the future!

Room Tip: Rooms with ocean view are better, beware the 7300s because our first room was in that area!

Thank you for your comments. We sincerely regret that these guests had an issue with bugs. When we were advised of the concern, our front-desk personnel immediately moved the guests to a two-bedroom condo for the same price as they were paying for a one-bedroom.

The Victorian has a top-notch housekeeping staff. We take the thought of having bugs in our units very seriously. When the guests reported this incident, we immediately called our professional exterminator. Upon inspection, it was determined that the dead bugs found were sand fleas. It is never pleasant to encounter bugs of any kind but, unfortunately, the presence of sand fleas is a common occurrence in Galveston since we all like to enjoy the beach. These little critters come back home with us on our towels, swimsuits, beach bags, etc.

Here at The Victorian, ensuring that our guests have an enjoyable, memorable experience is our number-one goal.
