We stayed at Tremont one night. The room was very comfortable, the bed made me want to stay a second night. The management was flexible with a late checkout, and the night watchman fetched me a can of soda because I was thirsty having checked in so late. Nice common areas downstairs too. Very light and airy, and a beautiful bar area.

The only negative is a strange one. We checked in admittedly late, right at midnight. The main entryway was dark and unlighted, and we thought the hotel had closed! There was no valet present. Fortunately, the doors were unlocked, and we found our way to the check-in desk, where we were greeted. They then flipped the lights on in the foyer area. A steady downpour was taking place outside, and the overhang only covers the sidewalk, so I unloaded our car in the night rain, stepping in deep puddles that formed adjacent to the sidewalk. I learned that it's not wise to try to avoid the ankle-deep water by leaping onto the curbside. The yellow-painted area gets very slick, and I fell down in the street! Fortunately, I was not seriously injured. The area needs to be well-lighted with an attendant even late into the night. I imagine they can't extend the overhang past the sidewalk because of historic regulations/city codes, but guests should not have to unpack their vehicles in the rain (There was not a self-parking option, only valet).

Other than this, the hotel was a nice, historic-type place.

The staff are the best! Friendly and helpful. It is located in the Strand District walking distance to shopping, restaurants historic places. Built around 1859 you cannot help but love the charm. Check sites for deals on hotels in Galveston, TX before you book we were able to get a 200.00 a night room for only100.00 a night!! It is just so beautiful and the staff treated us like royality! It is everything you could wish for in a Hotel!

I have stayed here twice. Once 24 years ago for my first anniversary and then this past April. It seems
about the same as I remembered it, and although they suffered much hurricane damage from Ike, they have completely repaired it all. It has a bit of romance to the rooms since this is a boutique hotel and the rooms aren't your standard chain hotel room. We had a room on the 4th floor. The room size
is standard (I would say under 400 square feet) but the ceilings are super tall making the room seem larger and the floors are wood and there is a
large rug and an overstuffed chair in the room. There is a small table in the room and the coffee pot and mugs took up half the table. There is also a safe in the TV credenza area. Bathroom was clean and modern, though on the
smallish side. The doormen are johnny-on-the-spot on getting the door each time you leave or enter the hotel and are very courteous. The best thing about this hotel is its location. We walked to dinner over at the pier one night and drove to the seawall the next. We walked to clubs both nights we stayed there. The clubs/restaurants are roughly around the block as this hotel is situated in the strand district. If you are coming
down for a cruise, this is an awesome location. We also went fishing on a charter boat and could have walked there as well. On the down side, the hotel does NOT have a
pool but you will have privileges at a behemoth on the seawall. Of course use of this pool is not convenient and requires a drive, valet parking and what that
entails. The hotel offers valet parking only but we found a place on the street to park each time we left. NOTE: I have heard they have recently reinstated the parking meters all around the area so you may have no option but to use the valet parking garage now. If I were coming down for a cruise, this is definitely where I
would stay. Have been to Galveston probably 100 times so I think this is a
great hotel pick and is in my top 3 in the city. If you want to be by the
beach, however; I would choose the Galvez or the San Luis for hotels with many amenities. Tremont House is not anywhere near
the beach and requires a few miles' drive to get there. It is about
3 blocks from the cruise terminal however. It is a great choice for romance, privacy, and walking the strand district. I would definitely stay there again.

Just spent five days sightseeing in Galveston and chose the Tremont for it's location...could not have been more pleased. The hotel is lovely and our room was large and well appointed, but I have to say the most pleasing factor was the staff. Honestly, from the valet to the front desk to the cheerful people who made breakfast, every one of them was friendly and helpful. I also highly recommend the rooftop bar. I can't say it had that much of a view, but on a very hot day the breeze up there was delightful. The location of the hotel puts it next to the Strand so it was a convenient walk to lots of shopping and restaurants. Also, the room rate was an excellent value when compared to other hotels and B & B's. If you decide to stay here I hope your experience will be as good as mine was.

Great romantic hotel for couples, just got back from a Memorial Day weekend stay. Do not recommend for younger children. Our room had two barn door type windows that opened up to the interior atrium. We opened them up in the evening and could hear the pianist/singer who was in the bar area that night. The rooms are nice, very high ceilings (3rd floor) with Victorian design touches. Only complaints were bathroom didn't seem to match decor (cheesy tub) and shower head was about 5 feet high (I'm 6'4'' so just hit me mid-chest) Water pressure was terrible as well. Lots of sitting areas in the main floor lobby and great bar. Valet staff was very friendly, though there is a $15 per night charge for valet service (but you can leave/return as many times as you like)
