We arrived at check in time but promptly got our room. It was clean and neat with a fantastic view of the ocean. Service was excellent and the staff were all friendly and helpful.

The only drawback was the live band by the pool Saturday afternoon. We could hear it in our room on the 14th floor, with the patio door shut. I imagine the bands only play during the summer, or even spring break, and it did end around 8:00, but if I had been trying to sleep, I wouldn't have been so happy. If you're worried about that being an issue with you, just don't book an ocean front room so you won't hear it (the pool is on the ocean side of the hotel).

The hotel, the cleanliness, the amenities, the free parking, the staff, the view, the location, the landscaped grounds, you name it, all excellent! This must be the best hotel in Galveston.

We had a marvelous stay at the San Luis in Galveston. My husband was attending a conference at the hotel and conference center, and we agreed that the setting was absolutely perfect. The view from the balcony was beautiful and the room very comfortable and well taken care of. The Housekeeping staff kept everything spotless. Free high speed internet access in the room was a nice feature, also. We didn't make use of the pool, but those who did reported that it was heated, and they enjoyed it very much.

My wife and two kids absolutely loved San Luis. This was our first time here. We had been at the Hilton and other hotels. The San Luis is by far the best hotel in Galveston.

Because it is winter we stayed for only $129 a night. I promised my wife we would swim in Galveston and she was furious with me when we arrived and it was almost freezing. But the pool was hot and the air around it was warm. We spent most of the weekend in the pool. It is beautiful and has waterfalls and a slide for the kids.

We spent the rest of the weekend eating at places within one block of the San Luis: Landry's Seafood, IHOP and Rainforest cafe with its volcano, animals and aquarium.

The rooms were much better than the Hilton and the lobby was regal. The staff were friendly and always on your side. The valet boys even told us how to park for free under the San Luis. We will stay here often. The San Luis just makes you feel good being here.

Stayed for 5 days this past week with my husband & kids - part business/part pleasure. We had a very nice stay - the hotel is very well appointed, the rooms quite large (although the bathroom was a bit small and the bottom of the door was cracked and peeling), and the pool area was great! As other reviewers have posted - the heated pool is really warm, which was great because the temps were cool while we were there. The waterslide is smaller than expected but there are two hot tubs, one with a nice waterfall feature. During this "off season" the amenities are pretty slim (had to go to front desk for pool towels, limited poolside service, etc.).

A few things to know - there is a coffee maker in the room, but if you prefer a better cup of coffee than those packages can offer, the Cafe downstairs provides it to-go with no charge until 9am (after that it's $2.50/cup - ouch!). Also, the Spa/Fitness Center was very nice - we didn't use the spa but were in the fitness center every day. We were surprised to learn at checkout that there is a $4.33 per use fee. While not a significant charge, I didn't appreciate the fact that it is not posted anywhere (nor were we told of the charge when signing in each visit). When I complained about that at the front desk, the clerk just said, "oh, I'll tell the concierge". ??

Others have raved about the service - I will just say that it was pleasant and courteous, nothing above and beyond expectations.

We didn't eat at the hotel restaurants (except for one night of room service which was just OK) - but you will soon learn that pretty much all the decent restaurants on the island are owned by Landry's so while good, they are all basically the same! Kids loved the Rain Forest Cafe (bigger & better than the one we have locally and the erupting volcano was a big hit).

Overall, would recommend!

We stayed over New Years 2007 from 12/29 check in through 1/1/07 check out! What a great break. The weather was fantastic and the hotel pool was HEATED to perfection!!! The great hot tub was where we spent New Years Eve. We met friends and stayed till 3:00 AM. Great Waterslide and heated grotto too! The staff was wonderful. The rooms were perfect, all ocean & pool view. The only thing lacking was a refrigerator or micro in the room. Highest rating. Just like a Mexican Resort but right on Galveston Island Beach!
