We were not disappointed coming here. I read other reviews and it talked about not going when it is so hot. I agree with that, so we visited when it opened at 10am. There were a lot of neat trains you could actually go in and see how they were set up. The kids loved exploring all of the different cars to the trains. We spent about an hour and 1/2 at the museum. Make sure to spray yourself with mosquito spray because there were a lot of them when we first got there. Our children are 4 and 7 and they seem to really enjoy themselves exploring.

We weren't at the museum for long because we arrived in Galveston late, but our short visit was interesting enough that I would like to explore the rest of the museum in the future. We explored all of the trains in the yard, as well as the models. The trains in the yard were from many different eras, although I wish there was more information about the trains and some context that surrounds the era. A good museum for children!

We enjoyed our visit. We were able to tour through many old rail cars. We were able to learn some history while actually walking through the old trains. Very neat!

The museum is built on the site of the original busy railroad station. The exhibit of 'ghosts of passengers past' is brilliant. The artist had dressed real people in thirties style clothing and covered them in plaster of paris. When the plaster dried the people were carefully cut out leaving 'the statues'. They are in various positions around the huge waiting room and the museum is worth visiting just to see these. It's a great photo opportunity! You can also climb into the various trains on display outside on the tracks.

I hadn't been to this museum for over 20 years. They have really made progress - despite the ravages of Hurricane Ike. While there are several well-preserved specimens of early passenger rail cars, there are several badly in need of restoration.

I grew up in a railroad family. I can really appreciate the level of effort that it takes to keep the old EMD F units in running order. I like the early Santa Fe warbonnet paint scheme and they have recaptured that bygone era perfectly with their two locomotives!
