Description: It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante!

We once lived on the Gulf Coast but returned this past weekend to attend a wedding. We had eaten at this Mario's in the past and found it to be good food, good service and a friendly atmosphere. Our return visit was not disappointing.
We ordered a pizza and a couple of appetizers as our meal. The pizza was great and the fried calamari and bruschetta were very tasty.
Service was excellent until it came time for the check. The server who had been generally attentive had seemingly disappeared for 10-15 minutes while we waited for the check. Since we not rushed this was not a big issue, but had we been in a hurry this would have been a major inconvenience.

The food was good here, nicely cooked and served at a good time. Service also good and friendly. Just a shame that the inside of the restaurant lets it down. It could do with a make over and a re-postioning of the tables to make it more inviting.

I ordered a Margherita pizza. The dough was like regular bread. The chesse was so salty which was not a mozzarella tastes just like store bought .I expected they may have a home made mozzarella. I was so disappointed. This is might be athe last time visit for them.

Come on back and try our New Caprese Pizza which is more of a traditional marghertia using whole milk fresh mozzarella, crushed plum tomatoes and topped with fresh basil!

There was a large group of us heading on a cruise the next day so we were looking for a place to get good food and not have to deal with the young rowdy ones. Even late on a Sunday night every place we stopped had was noisy and crowded with a hour + wait time. One of our group suggested Marios- it's a little further away from the busy touristy area but it was still really crowded. So we still had an 45 min wait. But they were really nice and because we had some elder relatives with us let us sit in the outside eating area to wait instead of standing in the lobby. The food was delicious- standard old school Italian food and reasonably priced. They were also happy to accommodate the special dietary needs of one of our group.

We are at the Seawall location. The food was excellent, the service was good and the view of the ocean was relaxing. Overall a great Italian place.
