Description: It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante!

Most of the time you think about getting seafood while in Galveston. Think again! You need to stop at Mario's and get a pizza! Their made to order or build your own pizza's are out of this world. Great view of the water and the staff is awesome! They have a buffet but I was not interested in it but hey...it's all good and the price it just right.

We ate at Mario's Flying Pizza in Galveston on our honeymoon, when it was a tiny hole in the wall. We've actually had trouble since then figuring out which Mario's is the descendant of that place, and it appears this Ristorante is the one that belongs to the other brother. Nevertheless, the hand-tossed pizza had a crust that was both crisp and tender, not a combination you find often. The iced tea was $3 a glass, but actually so good it was almost worth it. If attention to detail is the sign of a great restaurant, this place may be one. We only had the pizza, so it's hard to say.

I have Been here several times and always the same great food and service.
My new fav is the cheesy garlic bread with marinara sauce.. I could eat the entire plate of 6 by myself! The best best i have ever tasted. The pizza is awesome as well.

Good, reliable food; very reliable, friendly service. Not fancy, just comfortable.
We keep going back for the waitstaff, most of whom have been there for a long time. They remember the regulars, and treat the tourists well. A big part of good dining. Food is very good, but doesn't get too fancy. Filling.
A very good local eatery.

We found this place based on the recommendation of our condo's receptionist. I have a weakness for Margherita style pizza and they did not disappoint. The dough is hand tossed and they will even give some to the kids to keep them occupied. Our waiter was also world class. The worst part about the trip was leaving the leftovers behind because they would not survive our trip back home.
